Cali to Pisco

Hi folks

I´ve just got a job in Pisco and need to be down there in a week or so. Has anyone had any experiences / advice (especially for single women) on this route, safety-wise?

I´m planning to fly Cali - Bogota, fly Bogota -Lima, then take the bus to Pisco. Can you recommend any airlines, or even places to stay along the route as I´ll have to break up the journey?

Thanks

p.s. also, but unrelated, my friend is staying on in Cali, and wants to watch the rugby. Any places he could check out?

Whitty, the only recomendation is to take care, because there was a very important earthquake in Peru in early August, and a lot of cities where almost destroyed, like Ica and a very important area of Pisco. No to frighten away but in the last weeks it were some little earth tremors. Just try to looking for some news about how is the situation now.

There are various flights to Lima. Tam and Avianca the main ones as far as I can remember. If you know Lima fine, but these flights arrive 9ish in the evening,so you are on the back foot straight away, if you don't know your way around.Taxis charge what they can, there is no control on prices.Another option is Cali to Quito, then Quito Lima, Quito has excellent facilities at the airport, whatever type of Hotel you want, can be booked there, budget to five star and you pay for the taxi at the same time, so you pay the correct price.I have done your purposed trip several times by bus and Aeroplane and can give you loads of info. When you are in Cali PM me as it would be better to talk, if you want further info.

Thanks folks.

I´m in Cali now, staying up near Av.6. I know about the earthquake there, and am actually going to work as a volunteer with an NGO down there, reconstruction and such like.

As for British English, it´s a long story, but they seem ok about it. La Campiña - are you the guy who´s having the house party on Saturday night? My friend (who is working at British English now, and wants to watch the rugby) is going along with his new workmates. If so, I´ll see you there, thanks.

see some of you soon, no doubt!

I don't know for certain but I think taking a bus from Cali south out of the country is very dangerous based on some Colombian busers killed down in that region last year and the general location it is in. Please search this site for the general Colombia maps showing the red (danger) regions which are anywhere outside the large cities in the countryside. Also for what it is worth the U.S. State Dept. warns against travel outside the major cities.

get down, get down. are you afraid of the boogie monster?

Whitty, I took the bus from Lima to Paracas, which is near Pisco in 2006. It was very safe, no problems. There were lots of tourists on the bus (sorry I can't tell you which bus company it was, but I know there are options). I think the bus ride was 3 hours or so....just don't recall the exact number of hours.
