Has any one travelled Cali, Popayan, to the boarder of Ecuador and beyond, by bus. Is it a good route and is it worth the trip.....? Thanks :)

Gomezman5 says on May 24, 2007, 19:54: Sure it's worth the trip Who are you trying to see disappear? I can't think of a better way to make sure that someone takes a permanent than to tell them to take a scenic bus ride like that.

I have only made the trip from Pasto to Cali. No problems there.

Ebeth says on May 26, 2007, 16:18: Gringo and not speaking spanish Yep, going_south, I am Gringo, female and I dont speak Spanish. From the information above it seems more risky than anything else. I am traveling with my boyfriend but both being blonde and blue eyed, i think other than a big light over our heads, we may stand out from the locals.... :(

billyb says on May 26, 2007, 16:22: Why not take the puddlehopper from Cali... to Pasto, then take a little sidetrip to Laguna de la Cocha? Can't cost that much more than a bus. Although you would miss seeing some beautifull countryside by flying. "All I want to know is where I'm going to die, so I never go there" Unkown (at least to me) wise man. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

el_canuck says on May 26, 2007, 16:55: I did the trip both ways about 6 years ago - once at night and once in the day. I lived to talk about it but it wasn't the most pleasant experience. Going south from the border to Quito was a miserable bus trip. The bus was stopped at least 4 times by police. Ecuador buses were not nearly as comfortable as Colombian ones.

goin_south says on May 26, 2007, 21:40: billyb... I'm not sure two blond-headed travelers should be going by themselves, to Laguna de La Coche. It's a pretty rough one-street, lakeside village, going down there to the lakefront. I was with four other Colombiano/as.
