Cali Recommendations

Hi Everybody,

I'm travelling to Cali next week and it will be my first time in Colombia. Airfare was a good deal and I figure I can travel from Cali to Cartegena or Bogota when I want.

I've heard much about the country and in travels to Central America, have met a few Colombian people and liked them. My Spanish is poor, but I can usually get by with it and I hope to improve it while I'm in Colombia.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good hostel (clean/safe/inexpensive) or hotel? It would be nice if it included pickup at the airport.

I'm preparing to take a long bicycle trip down the PanAmerican Highway beginning in June, so I want to do some training in Colombia. I'll be bringing a bicycle and am thinking about a tent and some camping gear. Any suggestions on this? I saw one guy had a hostel advertised on this website, he recommended bringing a sleeping bag or tent to his place. Other people have told me its far too dangerous to camp and unnecessary because the accomodations are inexpensive? Ideas on this?

My other goal in Colombia is to replace a couple of dental bridges while I'm there. I've been told the dental work is quite good in Colombia and its far cheaper than the US. My overworked bank account really likes the idea of saving some money.

Finally, any tips or guidelines would be much appreciated. I've been reading here and have gathered a lot of information -- every little bit helps.

thanks
