Cabo de la Vela

Anyone been to Cabo de la Vela. If so, how is it? Any thought's on places to stay. Beaches to hit. Things to see/do? Is it near Taganga/Santa Marta? Or how far up the road? What's the best way to get there? Buongone

Cabo de la Vela It is definitelly not near Santa Marta, it is around 5-6 hours away on a private car. It is in the middle of the desert of La Guajira near the top tip of Colombia. There in only one area to stay, where you can either rent a room or better off stay in a hammock for 15000 pesos out in a hut. It is a fantastic place. The best beach, yet you need transportation out there is the morro de azucar beach.

juanalejo... is correct but it is not and easy trip. If you have never been GO!
About 155 kn to Riohacha. From Riohacha you have to go by car over to Cuarto Vias then NE up through Uribia to Cabo de la Vela probably another 70/80 km. Bring repellent, sunblock and light clothing. I would consider booking a guide service out of Riohacha

Great Place Stay on the beach and sleep in a hammock. Try the goat and the spiny lobster. Hike around, there a few amazing views and sights. Enjoy your trip--don't forget to get to Santa Marta if you're around that part of Colombia.

Cabo de la Vela Thanks for the insight. I'll have to think about it. Might just stay in the Santa Marta/Taganga area. Again, Thanks

Buongone When you say Santa Marta I assume you will be staying in El Rodadero. If so go by Aqua Terra Tours on Carrera 3 N6 by the Sorrento Hotel. See Ricardo Rodriguez, the owner, all kinds of tours including Capo de la Vella, Honest guy and runs tours to all the places in the park like CaƱaveral, Bahia Concha, Playa Crystal plus he is full of good advice free.
