Business Contacts in Medellin

I am an entreprenuer currently residing in Miami, Florida. I am looking to move to Medellin. I would like to establish a consulting firm for Colombian organizations looking for American/Canadian/European capital. I would like to get in contact with members of the local government and business community. Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

I have already made one visit. Medellin is currently in a growth stage. I believe I can bring additional capital, resources, and increased quality of life to Medellin.

What social gatherings do you recommend? What is the process for acquiring a business visa? Thanks!

I'd start with the Colombian ProExport website. Lots of information there. Then to start building a network: The Colombian-American chamber of commerce (sub groups, I believe in major Colombian cities) and maybe even service organizations like Rotary International or the Lions International which have many chapters in Colombia.

The U.S. Commercial Service publishes information about trade opportunities in Colombia and I imagine they have local people in Bogota. I *think* their focus is on manufactured exports, though, not services/capital.

harvardexec...

Dude! Don't talk like that! Seriously, stop starting sentences with 'I' and saying things like 'social gatherings'....first step...

Second step, talk to people who are doing it...I have a friendi n Bogota who does just that...13 years later, still here...let's take it to email...and be a lot less formal/dry/ego-maniacal! I mean no offense, but harvardexecs here either go to Los Andes or the Colombian government. If you want to get down and dirty with the business culture of Colombia, well, take off the tie!

Seriosuly though, email me, we'll chat
