bus from Cali to Chiclayo, Peru

I am planning a trip to Peru in a few months and I would like for my friend from Cali to be able to meet me there. I would have to get her bus tickets.

I would like to know how safe it is for a woman and a child to go by bus through Equador and down to Chiclayo. I'd also like to know, if anyone knows, about how much I should expect to pay and if anyone has ever done this, how their experience was.
