Hi All,
I hear there is a bus that goes from Bogota to Cali. Anyone have any experience with this? I just thought it might be interesting to see the country. Am I crazy?

ColombiaBoard says on Dec 19, 2004, 07:45: Bus to Cali Well, there isn´t just one, there are many that go from Bogota to Cali everyday, just go to the main bus station (near Avenida El Dorado) and buy your ticket, one recommendation, this is the "high season", there are thousands of people travelling to different places everyday so go as early as possible otherwise you may not find available tickets. Be sure to buy a ticket for a but with Air Conditioning and hopefully WC otherwise your trip could be rather uncomfortable.

Atrevido says on Dec 19, 2004, 08:22: He won't see much of the country if he goes at night but will save a lot of money over air. I took the bus from Bogota to Cali and the trip took eleven hours. Some of the mountain scenery is great. When in Bogota though I spoke with a couple who had taken a colectivo from Cali. More expensive and they said the trip was exhausting for the breakneck pace but made it in seven hours. Also met an Austrian who had just cycled from Cali to Bogota. Probobly crazy but alive.

Desideria (Moderator) says on Dec 19, 2004, 08:30: taxi colectivo? We went from Cali to Bogotá once in a velotax colectivo. Do they still exist? Very comfortable and it wasn't that expensive either. santiBOG says on Dec 19, 2004, 08:58: I wouldn't do it in one shot Intermunicipal public transportation in Colombia can be uncomfortable at times. It is definitely interesting to see the country. What you may want to do is split the trip in two. Say Bogota to Girardot one day (3 hrs), and the remainder the next day.

Gator says on Dec 19, 2004, 09:34: colectivo or... mini-bus (busetas) are the fastest and some say the most comfortable. The big express buses (very limited stops) are also ok and they have restrooms and reclining seats. Plan to leave in the morning if you wish to see anything enroute. Distance is roughly 500 km(300 miles) and takes approximately 12 hours. High points-Coffe Country around Armenia and crossing La Linea at about 3400m. Cost should be about 42/45.000 pesos (say $18. USD)Expreso Palmira and Flota Magdalena, et.al. make the trip. In Bogotá check at the Terminal de Transporte for times and prices. Gator says on Jan 23, 2007, 14:20: Hum??????/ The times Mrs. Gator and I have made that trip the bus went through Melgar but I am pretty sure there is a route through Espinal or Melgar that would go to Giradot thought you might have to make a bus change.
