Take the bus It's not that bad. It's cheap, do it at night and take a couple of sleeping pills, wake up 12 hours later and doze away the rest of the time. I've done a few trips like that. Went from Santa Marta to Bogota, and it seened shorter than some of the 7 hour bus rides i did during the day.

Make sure you take a nice bus with reclining seats. It really isn't that bad. I'd personally hate to be cramped in a car for that amount of time.

It took me 20 hours exactly which was nice, that's how long they said it would take. Usually you have to add on an extra 10% to the amount of time they tell you, generally I've found they underestimate. It was nice considering i was on a bus for 20 hours, but time flies when you're asleep.

Haha no! I went during low season. But that's the beauty of Colombia, even when it's low season, the coast still has a perfect climate and an infinite number of things to do, just less people and more tranquility, and that works for me :)

That being said, going to the coast from Medellin in the height of high season didn't seem to slow things down at all in terms of buses either. It probably does from Bogota though, there are a lot more people there.

Appreciate all the help....Thanks!
This is my first trip to Colombia, a long time dream of mine. My flight back to L.A. leaves from Cartegna so I have to make my way there. I am thinking flying would be best to save some time as I only have 12-days. Price one way from Bogota to Santa Marta roughly ($100USD) Will wait till I get to Bogota to purchase. Just recently took a bus from Santiago, Chile to Buenos Aires over the Andes ($45USD)20hrs, interesting. I have been reading this forum for awhile and it looks like Don Gringo is the main man. ??? For you Don: Any good restaurants in Bogota that you can recommend? Decemt priced, view of the city - first night there? Gratitude.

Hey Kat1, what's so beautiful in Aracataca?
what we do in life... echoes in eternity.

"I am a citizen of the most beautiful nation on earth. A nation whose laws are harsh yet simple, a nation that never cheats, which is immense and without borders, where life is lived in the present."
