I noticed in the Guide book that there is a bull fighting ring in Bogota which operates for a few months of the year. I am not that keen to see a bullfight but I would like to see the ring. I gather it is some sort of Moorish building like the one in Barcelona.
Anyone know if you can visit the ring out of season!

elmodefoque says on Sep 21, 2005, 07:39: This is just another case of upper class pretentious Colombianos doing everything that’s European or foreign. What the hell do we Colombians have to do with bull fighting, that shit is a Spanish tradition that has nothing to do with us. We should be doing what most our Colombians ancestors, the Chibchas, used to do, which was to swing a goat by the balls and throw it as far as possible. Winner gets 4 virgin indiesitas. I'll get there, when I get there! 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

juanalejo says on Sep 21, 2005, 20:23: Bullfight ring I do not like bullfighting either, and personally I rather have this dissappear. But unfortunatelly is a tradition that dates from years ago. Joshnic, just look at the concerts agenda as many concerts and events are held on a regular basis in this arena.

Apoleon says on Sep 22, 2005, 11:20: bull fignting Plaza de toros santamaria, is the name of the bullfighting ring in Bogota, it is located in a part of town where you could see the influence of spanish and european culture. The bullfighting ring is closed to the public after the bullfighting season is over, so you can only see it from outside. In the last couple of years something sad has been happenig to this bullfighting ring, drug addicts are literally smoking it away. they are using knives to scrape off the briks that make up this structure and they are mixing it in their pipes with crack. aIt has gotten to the point that the damage is obvious when you walk by.

thur says on Sep 25, 2005, 04:53: View from above? Without getting involved into a bullfighting (yuck!) discussion, but from the outside the building is nice and from on top of Torre Colpatria (Sat/Sun) you can see the ring clearly. Even better if you have binoculars or a camera with good zoom (in my album http://www.pbase.com/thur/image/47983101 only shows part of it, other photos with the full ring aren't online). - pbase.com/thur 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

elmodefoque says on Sep 26, 2005, 06:14: Lockhed, the idea of practici Lockheed, the idea of practicing the ancient Chibcha game of “tossing of goats by the balls” with your dogs is outstanding and brilliant. Remember, you gotta catch the goat first, that’s where a good percentage of energy gets used. The goat is a lot quicker than you but dumb as a goat so you gotta outsmart that mothefoque. Slowly trap him to a corner and with your left hand grab the horn and with the right hand go for the balls, but hold on tight because the goat is goona go bezzerk. Listen, nobody likes to be picked up and hurdle by the balls so you know that modefoque is gonna be pissed off. I'll get there, when I get there! 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Playing the devils advocate with a member of PETA recently ( can be good fun with one of those lunatics ) I came up with the idea that seeing as the bull is going to be turned into a nice juicy steak anyway, giving it a chance to fight to remain off your dinner plate is actually quite sporting.
