Bucaramanga to Santa Marta...Safe?

I am planning to take the bus from Bucaramanga to Santa Marta in the next week or so, does anyone know the security situation on that route right now? Is everything safe? Also, what is the best way for someone who speaks little Spanish to get around safely? Have directions for everything in writing to give to the taxis? Thanks.

A couple of friends made that route last Christmas and said it was pretty safe, Army every 4 miles or so. Dress in a normal fashion and avoid flashy cloth.Having written directions might help, but finding someone bilingual you can trust is be best.Enjoy your trip.

Awhile since we made the trip but friends who made the trip, as recently as the first of the year, said no problem or concerns.

Nowadays no problem - a good number of years ago, I was an idiot (OK, had no idea at the time) and got extremely freaking lucky doing it.

Have fun, I'd take almost any road in Colombia now.

de nada ;-)

What I have, I do not want to lose, but Where I am I do not want to stay, but those I love, I do not want to leave, but those I know I no longer want to see, but Where I die, I do not want to go;I want to stay where I have never been
