Broadband / Banda Ancha in Barranquilla

I may very well be able to tele commute from my job in the following months. I am greatly considering moving to Barranquilla where most of my family lives although I was born in the states and raised here.

My biggest concern is broadband access in Barranquilla. Anyone know their reliability and cost?

thanks!

I have exactly the same question for Cali. I also heard broadband is not available in all areas of a given city. Broadband:

Cost?
Availability?
Reliability?
Speed? (eg: comparable to DSL, cable, or ?)

Anyone? Thanks....

PHONE COMPANY I am using BATELSA, Vichere, what company are you using? I have direct tv and they are evidently offering internet via sattelite in Bogota but not in barranquilla. I called the cable provider for Barranquilla and no luck there either.

bummer Nothing personal but my Colombian breatheren have the most inane, confusing web sites for IT purposes. It's all flash, pizazz and esoteric terminology. Not very smart business to write over layman's heads.

I've got a headache just navigating through ISP providers websites'.

Broadband in BAQ Just got back from Barranquiilla.
You can get broadband in BAQ in the better areas of town through Teledinamica. Mainly in the North... Calles 79, 80, 90, 96. If you want to know exactly which barrios (there are a lot of them) go to the Teledinamica office on Calle 84 con Carrera 65. Phone 361-5500 (in Barranquilla) They are open 7:30am -7pm M-F and 7:30am-1:30pm on Saturday. Gringos can get the service in their own name.. no need for a cedula. All you need is your passport. Its a 1 year contract... if you break it in the 1st 6 months you owe them 2 months worth of service. If you break it in the last 6 months.. you owe them 1 month of service. They are very friendly and helpful. I even took a look at al the modems they offer to make sure there was an ethernet connection so I could use my Vonage with the modem. I've listed the plans below. The Personal Plus plan is sufficient for Vonage Adapters.

Some of the details on what they offer...

Basic... 128 kbps download 64 kbps upload 69,600 pesos/month
Personal Plus 256 kbps download 256 kbps upload 127,600 pesos/month
Profesional 512 kbps download 256 kbps upload 186,100 pesos/month

All of these also charge a 50,000 peso activation fee and they tell you that it normally takes 3-5 days to get the service set up once you order it.. though currently they are getting them all done within 2 days. Hope this helps anyone that was desperately looking for high spped internet in BAQ like I was.

Lastly, this company is the cable TV supplier. It costs 60k pesos for cale TV. It's separate.

Oh I almost forgot.. they raised the exit tax when leaving Colombia. It now costs 94,400 pesos.
