According to the BBC there's in the region of 3,600 British expats living in Colombia.

And over twice that amount in Venezuela.

Hurrah and huzzah!
A bit surprised at the amount in Venezuela though. And disappointed that there are so many rubbing shoulders with the damn Argie´s too. Have they no sense of loyalty?!
I love the fact that New Granada got its independence on the back of 2000 ex British soldiers from the Napoleonic Wars.

I never knew that. I wonder if many of them settled.

S**t...........that seems a huge number.............I've met a few English lads here and there is a nice British pub just down the street from me in Laureles....................3600 hundered seems a lot.........

.........Its useless to argue with ignorance

britabroad says on Jan 24, 2008, 08:41:

Kalder,
I ´ve read that some did, although there were only about 500 left by the end of the wars. Lots of them were Irish and there are several Irish names floating around. Wilson also seems quite well used.
It would be interesting to see where the 3,600 live. I guess that most of them are in Bogota and Cartagena. Doesn´t seem to be many in Cali. I expect them to all crawl out of the woodwork when England win the World Cup in 2010. We could all descend on RAAAY´s British Pub and drink it dry.

Can't coment on the 3600 brits, but I was told there are only 30-40 of us Irish (legally!!) in Colombia, although I'm sure you can expand on that number for those who decided to stay on past their visa date!!!

manINred says on Jan 24, 2008, 14:49:

Kalder, perhaps that number includes the born and raised Colombians who got their british passports/citizenship and moved back to Colombia?

RAAAY says on Jan 24, 2008, 14:49:

Well..............30 or 40 of us Irish......... to 3600 brits.................sounds to me, like it would be a fair fight ........

No Brits here in Armenia, but I hear that they are considering establishing Affirmative Action quotas.

I was talking with an Irishman in a bar once (well I was talking...he was drinking). I asked him what he thought about Scottish Whiskey. He told me that he thought the Scottish stuff was the best soft drink in the world.

Have you been in Cali? The place is full of women who are at least as impressive.

Even the not so pretty women there are sexy.

I met lots of brits in Bogota, but 3600 does seem high....8000 for argentina seems low though, the place is crawling with 'em. I hear british accents all day every day. I guess a lot are just tourists.

kalder says on Jan 26, 2008, 07:23:

Irish whiskey is far nicer than Scotch.

A Single Malt Scotch whisky is hard to beat!

Well known Single Malts from the different regions include ;

Speyside : Glenfiddich, Glenlivet, Macallan, Cardhu

Highland : Glenmorangie, Old Pulteney, Glengoyne

Lowland : Glenkinchie, Auchentoshan

Campbeltown : Springbank,

Islay : Lagavulin, Laphroaig, Bowmore, Bruichladdich, Ardbeg

I think that would definitely be the difference podborski. As we know, Argentina draws in many more tourists.
