Britain is better than Colombia

Fact.

You know I'm right:

The women, the climate, the cuisine...

Does Colombia have women with the class of Victoria Beckham, the dignity of Heather Mills, the warmth of Cherie Blair, the beauty and grace of Julie Burchill?

Lots of fog?

Jellied Eels? Bubble and Squeak? Spotted Dick?

I think not.

If I had all the money in the world and could speak Italian I would move in an instant to Florence Italy. Let me say that Florence is picturesque, loaded with renaissance architecture and museums, laid back quality of life, great bars and places to enjoy life, the people are warm and wonderful and the food is exquisite. GO TO FLORENCE once before you die. This is an order. You can thank me later.

Also Florence does not have Regaeaton - I hear it out my window right now.

Britain is getting over crowded.

rocinante says on Feb 1, 2008, 05:48:

And now on to the post.....

The cuisine in Britain? First someone making that sarcastic statement needs to define cuisine!

I can't argue that other countries blow Colombia out of the water. It all depends on what someone is looking for. Even Britain has something to offer.

I love Colombia and would rather live here than Britain. Colombia is affordable, great climate, laid back atmosphere, warm and friendly people a happy place, rich in culture and traditions.

Colombia does not have women that have the class and poise of the women in Europe and parts of the US. The education, although broad at times, is generally limited; much like the rural areas in any country. I'm not talking about Shakespeare, Wagner, Schopenhaur or quantum physics with anyone in Colombia. These people exist but in small quantities.

If you are a good, confident guy that women are attracted to then the country really doesn't matter much as women are generally the same. The guys coming here on vacation for a week, meeting the gringo hunters, prepagos, desperate women dying to get out of the house, while the guys are hanging out in the tourists areas will argue this but the vast majority of women here would rather be with a Colombian man. Human nature and most likely the communication and culture thing. Plus gringos here are seen as Indians/Pakistanis are seen in the US. Dorky and not fitting in - almost an embarrasment to bring home. Gringos here in Colombia means anyone not from Latin America. So you Brits and other Europeans are gringos in the eyes of this nation.

The food here is healthy by default if you stay away from the fried stuff especially the chicharon. Everything is fresh and farmed here, nothing processed and the variety increases monthly. The fruit is awesome. Colombians generally eat more often and smaller portions.

I love this place but only for the quality of life, the weather and the affordability - the downside is worth it. Plus I am in major city with a thriving economy, subway, lots to see and do. It's not for everyone. Money not an issue? I'm living in Florence Italy or on one of the Greek Isles.

I much prefer Italian food to french. In fact I don't like a lot of french haute cuisine. Foie gras is disgusting, IMHO. And how can you eat all those cream sauces? Yuck.

Of course, there is some great french cooking as well, the simpler stuff you find in roadside restaurants in the south for example.

I just had a pasta lunch here in BsAs that would make any italian cry. And it was one of the better ones I have had. I don't know what happened to italian food on the way from italy to here...

Foire gras grilled with a berry sauce and a sauternes, for me, is the pinacle of food indulgence.

The French do a great duck and the cassoulet and bourguignonne you get at even the simplest cafes is exquisite. Plus they are neck and neck with Italy in the seafood department.

Other than that (and poor deserts excluding Gellato), Northern Italy's food is without competition.

I hope to keep prices down too. If you haven't been here in a year or two manINred, prices have gone way up. Still a great deal as you say, but for the prices some places want now, it should be better. (Example, fixed price lunch at Bar Uriarte is now 48 pesos ($16) For lunch! it must be some kind of concentration problem. The trainer should beat them hard on the head with a stick when they are having their five minutes. Cordoba is another player when he plays for Inter.

"I am a citizen of the most beautiful nation on earth. A nation whose laws are harsh yet simple, a nation that never cheats, which is immense and without borders, where life is lived in the present."

manINred says on Feb 2, 2008, 12:49:

You are right, at the national level Colombian defensive system leaves a lot to be desired. Cordoba at Inter (my favourite Italian team, btw) has to be a different player because the system is much different. After all, if there is one thing that Italians know, it is how to defend beautifully (although at the last world cup they taught the world a thing or two about midfield-driven attack!). Cordoba has some of the world's premier defenders and coaching staff to work with at Inter, he doesn't quite have that on the Colombian national squad.

On a club level, the Colombian system relies on short passes that work through the midfields. Often I find they attack down the middle instead of using the wings and crossing it in, perhaps because the most potent deliverers all go to Europe in the end. But it turns out to be entertaining and effective nonetheless. And some great individual displays of skill, too.

Brtiain is a good country for msot things. my colombian wife when she gets angry says if she knew what this country was really like she would never have come to live here. she says the people and the weather are all grey and the city is miserabble.

i am proud to be english my son will grow up eating cornish pasties from the off licecne not empenadas sold by the roadside. The beer is better in england. in colombia it has no taste and they serve it to cold. does anyo ne know where you can buy good british ale in bogota.

When I go to England I can´t help feeling how many English would benefit from an attitude adjustment. There are a lot of great things, but the highlights are often obscured by greasy food, Chav culture and snobbish people.

But they do have good beer, a love of drink and conversation, great music, some very cultured people and a droll sense of humour.

I do not like Rome much but would happily live in Northern France or Italy. I could live in Paris for a while. Of course, I´m far happier in Hellhole, Ontario.

Monpirri, that is the phrase Santofimio told to instigate Escobar to kill Galan (as reported in Popeye's autobiography). It worked with Desi on another thread to make her delete a troll... :)

Jack_Jason, Thanks for the explanation. I really thought you were serious.

Listen I know everyone will defend their country of origin or where they reside now. But I do find it silly to compare a country like G. Britain or the USA to Colombia.

Any comment in this post is completely subjective. I love Colombia with all the good and bad. But trying to compare Colombia to any country that is part of the G8 is silly.

Britain is always better than Colombia for some reasons, but Colombia is always better than Britain for other reasons. It depends on what you are looking for, what you are feeling.

eg

women - Colombia
Climate - Colombia
earn money - Britain
NHS - Britain
affordable - Colombia

etc etc

Being so used to US pizza, which is not authentic, I never boithered with Italian pizza as I knew it was going to be a let down. Maybe if one approaches it as not being pizza but some Italian bread with sauce type of thing it might be actually good.

Pizza? Umm, mm...the best pizzas are from New York City.
The worst pizza I tasted was from Soledad a place close to Barranquilla. I tell you some people really know how to screw up great things.

A pizza in Soledad? Brrr... makes me feel bad just thinking about it.

Mitch, Simon, a few others, do you really not see this post was very firmly tongue in cheek?

Hate to have to point it out, but slguy even commented on it already and you still missed it.

kalder's later comments are clearly 'taking the mickey' (did I use that right? jaja)

sorry to ruin kalder's fun!
