Purchased a Flat Screen LCD and the Cubic inches is 95 and American Airlines wants 100.00 even to bring with me..got a good price for the LG on Sale..and the same model in Medellin looking at Carrefour and Exito only is 600.00 more amazing..you have to love competition in the states on electronics..So now I am investing 100.00 in shipping with AA on my flight in a couple weeks..back to Medellin.. You think I will have any problems with DIAN by saying its for my house and it is a personal item or they will charge me duty..
Any experience will help me. This is the first time bringing in something alittle expensive which is not a labtop..

mecca says on May 9, 2007, 18:49: you will have no problem ask them to stamp it "equipaje" and it'll be attached to your luggage. As it's for personal usage or a gift, there will most probably be no tax. They could tax you up to 15% of what their book says (they have books on everything), but that is rare and worth the risk of taking it in. We've never had them apply the tax, in probably 20 shipments.

coffee beaner says on May 9, 2007, 19:12: panthdave thanks for bringing this up ... I am actually planning to do the same thing. I am wondering if your counting your 2 luggage bags plus the TV or is the TV going to take the place of one of your bags?? also how big is your actual TV. Just want some reference since the TV I want to take is a 37".

mecca says on May 9, 2007, 19:22: beaner, no problem take whatever you need to the airlines, give them a copy of your passport and ticket. Have them send as "equipaje", don't worry about the size (i've got some colombian friends that ship leather furniture down like this, like sectional couches), you're looking at about $1 per pound (they can go by volume if you're sending really large things that don't weigh much, ie a couch), possibly a bit more. Call your airlines they'll give you all the info. A shipper can do this if you need JJ Logistics in Miami (305)405-8300 , tell them the guy from Cali that ships all the stuff sent you, they'll know.

mecca says on May 9, 2007, 19:40: In fact if you're going to Cali and not using all of your 1200 lbs, I'd like to send some stuff down. I'll be happy to walk you through the shipping details. Thanks.

panthdave says on May 10, 2007, 04:10: American Airlines Goes by Size and Weight They are going to charge me 100.00 because its over 67 Inches L+W+H. The Flat LCD is 95 Inches so they get a flat 100.00..for MIA-MDE Route. I don't think I will get a better price..so adding the 100.00 to my price of the Flat LCD..Was comparing to exito and carrefour online and still making out.. Well the cheapest LCD Size and Decent Name comparing to mine was 2,890,000 Pesos for a older Samsung 32" Model not even a newer model which I mean a LG or Samsung a name brand..I picked up last night at CompuUSA a 32"LG there most advanced model of this size for 799.00plus tax..110.00 cheaper for the same one at BestBuy..They had a LG at 37" but not the same model older and was not as clear as this one so took the 32" Advanced Model and newer. panthdave Miami |

panthdave says on May 10, 2007, 04:17: Remember The Box is bigger than the TV...in Size... I guess you can unpack the Flat LCD and repack differently but I don't want to take out of the original box based they have protection cushion and everything inside already.. panthdave Miami |

Miguel_Clavo says on May 10, 2007, 22:11: With american you will also have to pay an additional $100 if it exceeds the weight limit (currently at 50lbs) as well, which would be on top of the $100 for oversize....not sure what your tv and box weigh.....FYI..use the factory packaging and box....some airlines will not accept non-manufacturers boxing.....
