LDW: Why would Chavez be pissed off?

Ingrid was extremely popular before being kidnapped, and despite the morons here that wrongly accuse her of all types of BS, she will continue to be very popular and will have great success in politics if she chooses to do so.

Cacique, can you tell us what Ingrid was polling in her race for president before she was kidnapped? I will tell you, 4%, I somehow don't think that qualifies as "extremely" popular, but what do i know, i might just be one of those morons you are refering to ;)

It takes away one of his most effective propaganda tools. Or do you actually believe that he really cared about the hostages ? LOL. I suppose you have seen the trancripts of Chavez' lapdog Cordoba telling the FARC not to release Ingrid, have you not?

Lcacique says on Jul 2, 2008, 21:09:

billyb: I think Chavez has much greater issues to concern himself with than the hostages in Colombia. My view is that he is willing to exploit the situation if it is convenient. If not, oh well...he does not lose much if the hostages are set free or even if the FARC disappears because the FARC never were in a position to offer him much: they had no chance in hell of ever realizing their goals.

With respect to her popularity: what were the final poll numbers for her election to the Senate? I believe she di pretty good. Granted her poll numbers for presidency were not (in fact, I believe they were lower than what you suggest by the end of the campaign: of course she had been kidnapped). Nonetheless, I would not base her popularity solely on a presidential poll. And an event like what she went through will no doubt boost her popularity. I'm not insinuating that she will become president, I said she has a definite/bright career in politics if she wants it.

p.s. I polished off my last bottle of aguardiente.

Glad to hear that cacique, didn't expect anything less from you;) BTW, i was talking to some cousins in Colombia about ingrid and what her political future might be. We all agreed that there is no way she would ever become president, as her ties to France would make many Colombians suspect of which master she would serve. But with all her international prestige she could be a great asset as foreign minister for example. My perception of her increased, she showed tremendous dignity today. I have met her socially and liked her well enough, but had never been a fan of hers politically.
