Bogota to Buga by Car

I am in Bogota a few days in october and want to visit my wife's family in the Buga area. Is the road Bogota - Buga safe to drive? I just hate to fly with Avianca. I have been in Colombia lots of times before but never drove from Bogota?

Please let me know

I drove the road Bogota to Cali, several times with no problems. Buga is not too far from Cali. The road is LONG not so much in miles but in time. One of the biggest differences for me (a gringo) in Colombia is time and distance. The trip to Cali will take 10 hours or more of hard driving. Local air travel is fine and much shorter in time. Bogota to Cali less than an hour..

I TRAVEL A LOT , TO VALLE DEL CAUCA, I ALWAYS DO IT BY DAY , AND IS SAFE BUT IS AT LEAST 8 TO 9 HOURS OF HARD DRIVING,.

IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A NICE PLACE TO STAY WITH YOUR FAMILY OR FRIENDS , I HAVE A BEATIFUL FARM IN ZARZAL- VALLE IN THE SAME ROAD TO CALI OR BUGA. VERY NICE I RENT IT BY DAYS.

First travel Bogota Ibague which is a ramdon route but very safe. You will find plenty of soldiers watchin and doing a good duty. Get "LAS RUTAS DE COLOMBIA" in the PEAJE, so you can follow where you at. After Ibague you will be climbing "la linea" which is probably one of the hardest routes, make sure to have excellent brakes and to go slowly. Remember Colombians usually do not respect speed limits specially Trucks. Once you pass la linea you will be in Calarca, Armenia, Zarzal, Tulua and 20 minutes later Buga HAVE A NICE TRIP

Yes-it is safe but daylight only please. Not for the ladróns but to avoid that certain percentage of bo bos who drive without lights.

BTW, when crossing la linea pray very long and loud that there is no fog.
