Bogota or Cali?

I have a free air ticket and the carrier flies to Bogota and Cali but not Medellin. I have visited Medellin but never Bogota or Cali. Just would like advice to what you fellow PBH prefer if you have experienced both cities. I am a fairly young single guy that enjoys good restaurants, bars, dance clubs, meeting new people, exploring the city. I prefer warmer climate so Cali may suit me but Bogota has
some interesting places too. What are the women like in Cali and Bogota, generally speaking. Are they friendly like Medellin? Any other info would be appreciated including safe areas, areas to avoid, best malls, etc. Thanks friends.

You have a very difficult choice ahead of you. In my humble opinion Colombian women are mostly friendly and approachable. It all depends on the way you go about it. Bogota has some great for you to explore. Bogota also has some great discos and bars. Search on this site for postings by "bickers" as he has explored most of the bars in Colombia and most likely South and Central America lol.

Having spent considerable time in both cities, I would strongly recomend Cali. The people are friendlier (especially the chicas), it is warmer (in Bogota it rains a lot and can be chilly at night) and it is much cheaper. Stay in the northern part of Cali, (Juanambu is nice). I have visited Cali, Medellin, Bogota, Cartegena, Barranquilla and other places in Colombia and Bogota is my LEAST favorite city.

For me the real discriminator between Bogota and the other cities is the altitude. Being from the flatlands of FL and Tejas I just don't do well in it. Yeah I could get aclimated but not for a short 5 days visit. Panting heavily from only walking around my aparthotel looking for my underwear is not my idea of fun.

Bogota was neat and all but proly only a 1 time experience for me.

get down, get down. are you afraid of the boogie monster?

Yes, I resent that too.
I go to Cali and none of my friends are prepago. (Ok, I have a niece who talks on the phone and gets paid for it but that's not the same thing, right?)
All my female friends in Cali are very proper and pray the rosary on Tuesdays and make you go there too if you want it or not.

Well the guy did ask how are the women in Cali and Bogotá, didn't he? Most guys on here have said they like Cali because it's warmer and they wear less clothing than the women in Bogotá. And yes, I've seen a ton of pre-pagos in Cali and Medellín and I'm sure they're in Bogotá as well.

Stop being so defensive. It's not like you're the pre-pagos. Puh-lease.

I haven't been to Cali, but I am sure I would like Cali better than Bogota. From the information I have absorbed over the past couple of years here on PBH: The weather is warmer in Cali (hot), the people are warmer generally speaking, things are much cheaper, and yes it is probably a lot easier to find girls interested in a dorky, pasty white, gringo in Cali than in Bogota. Us dorks are a rarer breed in the south aparently.

Cali, sadly right now, is really dirty, ugly and unsafe. Bogotá, OTOH, is going through a great comeback. The only thing I don't like about it right now are the crater-sized potholes. But there's a lot more to see in Bogotá.

I was in Cali a couple of weeks ago and it is coming along (albeit slowly), they have finished most of the MIO and hopefully can start to concentrate on fixing those awful potholes and clearing the trash along the street medians. While there are always exeptions, the women in Cali are generally better looking and sexier than in Bogota. As far a cities go, Cali s a village compared to Bogota, but Bogota is too generic for my taste and I love the chaos of Cali.

Cali is hot, if you like that. Bogota has funky weather, but is rarely too hot or cold. Bogota, to Colombians, seems too generic, but for travelers not from South America at all, will meet your needs for an exotic place. It is all of Colombia in one stop, so to speak. I find it endlessly entertaining, but everybody there works all the time. Bogota, I guess, is the more European city of Colombia. I don't really know Cali very well.

admittedly, arriving can feel great too

Bogota - unless you are in a 140.000 peso or above hotel room, you won't have hot water. Try taking a shower in 60 degree water in 60 degree air temp! 5 million Rolos do it - but it will be a life event for you if you are not used to it. Cali - same - not much hot water. But instead of trying to stay warm, you will be trying to cool down.

I have never been in a "love motel", so I didn't know they were equipped with hot water. I asked the wife and she said she doesn't know of anybody in her extended family that has hot water in Bogota. I don't know what estrato level houses most of them live in, though the majority have to be 3 or below. Anyway, I was just giving info based on personal experience - defintely limited.

Ok, cultural activities in Burungota:
1) Chiva paseo millonario: they give you Burundanga and put you in a chiva with 20 others poor asses for a tour of the city.
2) Weekend en las montanas de Colombia: they give you Burundanga and put a fokin chain in your neck and take you to the mountains to a fancy campsite.
3) Granizada sorpresa: the scope of this fun game is to avoid a 20cm fokin bola de gelo aiming onto your fokin head. If you get it in your head it is like if they give you an overdosis of Burundanga.

Well damn it durito, where were you when I asked for nice places in Bogota to stay that were cheap? 45 mil is what I paid at a cheap place in Villavicencio. They never heard of hot water. In Bogota, I paid 80 or 90 mil at Suites Real 85 and they "sort of" had hot water. (The shower better be quick, and not between 7am and 11am) Suites Real now gets 180,000 a night from what I heard.

Durito, do the site a favor, and post the names and adresses of the hotel(s) you stay at that are 45.000 cop in Bogota. It would be a service to a lot of readers and posters here.

I have many times been in both cities. Have relatives in each. They are different and offer different attractions. One is not better or worse than the other. It will depend mainly on the person which city he/she likes better.

Rubito and I like Bogotá better. We prefer the cooler weather and the greater number of activities available. Bogota is a more formal culture than is Cali.

Girls in Cali may seem more attractive than those in Bogotá. That is not the case. They are beautiful in both cities. The weather permits a more casual lifestyle in Cali. Women's dress is also more feminine and more revealing. They are not as some may believe easier. You find different social standards and values here just as in any other place in the world.

I suspect that like all large cities it is more difficult meeting members of the fair sex in Bogotá. However, if women is your interest it stands to reason there are more beautiful women in a place with 7 million people as contrasted with 2.3 million population. After all, they are all Colombian.
