Bogota neighborhood question: Barrio Santa Isabel

hi, I'm coming to Bogota for 6 months starting at the beginning of May. My girlfriend, who is Colombian, lives in the Barrio Santa Isabel neighborhood, on Calle 1C... everything I've read says to avoid the southern and western parts of the city... should I get an apartment somewhere else, or am I paranoid from reading too much Lonely Planet.

I'm definately going to rent an apartment, but not sure where... she is looking for one, but I was wondering if we should get one close to her parents' place or somewhere else.

As for rent, I don't really know what average prices are, so it's hard to say. We lived together in a tiny studio in Korea, so we don't need much. I would be happy to pay $300 US I suppose.

My main question isn't about apartments, it's whether anyone knows how safe the aforementioned neighborhood is..

I would definitely get the apartment in a different neighborhood. Your $300/mo will afford you something far better than Sta Isabel.

Santa Isabel A somewhat rough neighborhood, imho you would be better off in the north side of the city, pass la calle 85 & la 15, better location, shopping & safer. I was in Barrio Santa Isabel two months ago visiting some relatives.
