BOGOTA and MEDELLIN Christmas Shopping and Celebrations

Bogota and Medellin start today a full week of Christmas celebrations and extended shopping hours.

BOGOTA:

85 Kms. (56 miles) of pedestrian and cycling routes open to the public. Major plazas and highways with Christmas lights decorations. Most stores in Malls and shopping districts will be open until midnight everyday until Dec. 23rd.

MEDELLIN:

Friday Dec. 15th all Malls and shops in major shopping areas will be open 24 hours, non stop. Next week most shops will be open until 10 p.m.

Christmas Lights along the river walk with special bands, food stands, etc. Visit also the La Playa avenue christmas lights in the downtown area. Don't forget Parque Lleras.

Nationwide? I think the midnight shopping hours may be nationwide. I know they are doing this in Neiva for the christmas season.

Also, the city of Neiva has hired a company that does the Medellin "alumbrados" to set up similar decorations in Neiva. Hopefully, they will still be up when I get there for New Years.

Alumbrados in Medellin The "Alumbrados" (Christmas Lights) in Medellin are done by EPM, the public utilities company which is considered the best managed and most efficient in Colombia.

They're doing not only Neiva's lights, also Caracas' (Venezuela) and Guayaquil (Ecuador) lights.

HaHa I didn't realize it was EPM. When I was in Medellin in June, I got the standard Paisa Pride Tour from my cousin including the EPM building and Parque Pies Descalzos.
