Air vs. bus, in comparison to time wasted on traveling....

Air... 1 hour...
Bus.. 7-8 hours...

A girl whom I am contacting with (from Bogota) says it is too dangerous to travel to Cali by bus.

Is it true? or, she is trying to get on plane, quicker trip?

Depends on the definition of "Dangerous".... There's 2 dangers to consider...

1. Bus Driver - Bus driver going hell-a fast, 90mph through curvy mountains....slamming on brakes, by passing other vehicles on one lane highways....

2. The Route - Bogota to Cali covers a lot of area.... I did Bogota to Pereira, which was a 6 hour to 7 hour bus trip without any issues.... There was a guy that wanted to get off at one point to stretch his legs because we were stuck in a jam, but the bus driver told him not to get off, because the area wasn't so great... As for Bogota to Cali, I'm not sure the exact route, but it should be fairly the same...

Ontop of the airfare cost, unless someone is meeting you at Cali airport then you can either take an expensive taxi to the centre or the cheaper more fun colectivo option which is what I did- a 1/10 of the price- can't remember exactly but I think the taxis were telling me 35,000 pesos, whereas the colectivo was 3500 pesos (or maybe less even).

If you have time to spare I think buses are a good idea. Didn't do Bogotá - Cali by bus but did Bogotá to Pereria as well (inreverse actually) via Armenia and the scenery was great. However the were holdups on the curvy mountain roads so everything took a good 2-3 hours longer what with hitting traffic entering Bogotá late in the evening.

If your newish to colombia take the bus in the day, the view is spectacular "en la linea" comfy modern coaches TV, toilets, but take warm clothes the air conditioning doesnt get turned off at altitude, its a must if your passing through. Suppose its want you want here, I've lived in cali for 5 years but prefer to meet colombians on the road rather than chicas plasticas on route to chipichape via avianca,
