BOG to CTG by car.

Does anyone know how long it takes to drive from Bogota to Cartagena by car on a Friday morning?

Actually that's a stupid question. I have a package going Fedex to Cartagena and it's supposed to be delivered by 5 PM today. Fedex tracking says it's out for delivery on a Fedex vehicle as of 9:20 AM, which in the U.S. means it's on a truck to be delivered.

Given the distance between BOG and CTG, they can't mean that they're driving a truck from BOG ostensibly for delivery by 5 PM. It has to be that they put it on another plane which would get to CTG in about an hour, which would still give them over 6 hours to make the delivery.

if you're gonna drive and you've been to Boston, expect the same road conditions

From Bogota to Cartagena by Car... Did the trip last month....approx 16-18 HRS driving time...
Better to take at least two full days and stop for the night...
Road conditions are from great to bad in some areas. Great scenery and small "Barrios" to see and experience. I would travel with a native Colombian and plan your trip in advance and make your hotel reservations early.

There is... no real easy way to drive.. Bogotá to Ciénaga, 920 km then back down to Cartagena which would be another220 km. The other way would be via Medellin but lots of mountain travel on that route. I have never personally undertaken this drive but people I know, from both Cali and Bogotá say they prefer the Bogotá/Ciénaga/Cartagena route because of the mountains going from Medellin.

I would totally agree with Manolo58's advice except I think he is a little optimistic on the time. Most people fly.

Well it looks like I'm getting my shipment for free because Fedex said my package left Bogota at 9:20 AM on a truck headed for Cartagena. If they don't deliver by 9:00 PM tonight, they're officially late and the shipment is free. From what you guys are saying, there's no way to make it there by land in time.

Yes Tinto, she got the docs, but there was no tracking scan when they delivered it. After leaving Bogota, you have no tracking capability. I don't know if I really like that, since it's kind of expensive to begin with.
