Is there a venue where I could perform. I'm not interested in making money.

Dude wasn't too professional,though.. He would stop in the middle of a song to answer his cellphone.. "A wise monkey never monkeys with another monkey's monkey." 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

lpdiver says on Dec 5, 2008, 11:05: I am open to different styles and would love to "jam" with locals. There music is actually a lot like cajun music with the fiddles and accordians. Remember what the monkey says, "Fuck money it's free" 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Bluesdude says on Dec 5, 2008, 16:51: There are enough people playing vallenato well here, and not many playing blues well. Don't expect the Colombians to understand or appreciate blues in english. I tried that in a club here in Cartagena and they got bored after 3-4 songs. Also, I went to a rock concert where the words were in english and after a few songs the crowd just talked and didn't really listen. I tried translating a few blues songs into spanish but the meter is way off. So, I just play what I like and if someone digs it it's good and if they don't it's good. Funny, if you go into coffee shops or bookstores, the background music is mostly jazz with a little soft blues thrown in, in english, so that music does exist here. I think you need a place with at least some gringo clientele to have some people to listed to you. I hate vallenato; sounds like Lawrence Welk on steroids. But I have to say that my opinion is colored by listening to it being blasted from car stereos in the parking lot below my apt. at 2-3 O'Clock in the morning. Jus' mah too sents. A guru once said, "the mind is like a drunken monkey." If that's true, then my mind is an orangutan on a binge 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
