biking through colombia

hi, i would like to bike through colombia. i will be starting in panama and leaving through ecuador. i have a couple questions.
1. is this a really bad idea?
2. i'm going to be flying in from panama, where should i fly to? Cartagena?
3. i'm thinking of doing cartagena - medellin - cali - popayan... how does this route sound? is there a safer one i should consider?
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. i speak ok spanish. probably i will be with another person. let me know what you think, ok? thanks so much,

doesnt sound like a very good idea There is a lot of common crime as well. Are you preapared to deal with that? Do you speak fluent spanish?

GIB, you took the words...... right out of my mouth. Jessi & Co better pack a tube of super glue for that ride. It's the only way their gonna keep those bikes under their butts. Bikes = $, $ = theft! I'm betting it'll be a very short bike ride and if their lucky, a long walk home??
