Check out in SEPTIMA CON 122. There is a little place called "bicicletas castillo". He have ALL (shimano, trek, you named. . .) he´s very friendly and have almost anything you need in high tech bikes.

But if you have a low budget go to la CARRERA 30 CON CALLE 68. you can buy anything you want.

Cycling is big in Colombia but the bicycles seem VERY EXPENSIVE.

A construction guy had a bike that costs 2 million pesos, expensive.

It is not difficult to spend 3 PLUS million.

Maybe this has something to do with it?

Cali,, robbery ??? It is no wonder folks in Colombia are poor (but happy).

Then again, it must be worth it to receive all the excellent benefits of being a Colombian citizen, like street repair.

Compared to what I see on ebay, this seems expensive but the tax is included. What would happen if a purchase was made and at the register and TAXES ADDED?

WoW: Half a million down and payments,, just like the U.S.

Poco- Recently a local eBayer in Sunrise(by ft. lauderdale) auctioned off several of those Treks(exact same model and color) you show in the Photo with a "Buy Now" price of $345-local pickup free, quite a difference,,,Unbelievable the difference in price save for a 2.5 hr plane transport.

I didn't see where he had anymore of these in a trek but here's a Similiar model in a Mongoose: Dual Disc brakes, front suspension ect(Judy, same as on that trek in your photo from the looks of it),,, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170109753606&ssPage...

do they conduct 'triathlons' in Colombia?
(I suppose this could turn into a whole new circus-like thread, but....)

BIKE.....300 kilometers down the carreterra, from Cali to Pasto
RUN..... uphill 20 kilos to Laguna de La Coche
SWIM.... across the Laguna.

all the while, being chased and shot at, by Las Farc!

Where do we go from here?

I think what you see in the photo is the Exact Colombian price being asked in June of this year. Many bikes were more money.

I do expect to see this kind of comment from someone who believes there are no manufacturing jobs in the U.S. and that one of the biggest mistakes made in the U.S. was to build up the rural areas and GIVE them the same conveniences as the city dwellers.

This particular post about rural U.S. using your curse-meister style has to be the all time greatest lack of intelligence on display I've yet to witness.

Does anyone recognize the bike in the window? I looked at the Trek site - they have bikes archived by years - and I couldn't find that color combination or a "model 8.9." They do have a model "9.8" but I think it's a more expensive performance/racing bike.

I have this bike, a basic Trek 4500, model year 2006 and it had a $550 USD list price (I think I paid a little less than $450 when it was new). The bike in the window, unless it has some high-end components, doesn't seem like it's that much different.

My opinion is that Colombia has "special" models and/or combinations. Kind of like the 4500 Toyota or as known in the U.S. as the older Landcruiser (pre 1997).

I've looked at refrigerators and nothing in the U.S. matches the Colombian whirlpool models.

Colombian Whirlpool, 3 million or about 1420 at todays exchange rate, probably $1,500 a few weeks ago.

Sears had a comparable unit for 1150 plus tax or about 1225. Not a big difference, only about,, oh,, guess what,, the tax difference plus a little. Link.

I noticed the entire link is not clickable, however the link can be highlighted and then right clicked and open in new browser (or tab). A minor detail.

Tinto-that Bike you show a Pic of and the One Poco shows a Pic is actually different Component wise in this aspect-The Trek in Poco's Pic has Disc Brakes front and rear so there is a sizeable price difference for this Upgrade(and well worth it IMHO). Once you ride a bike with Disc Brakes and experience their consistent no fade stopping power, its hard to go back to old school brakes,,,

Poco-How do think, otherwise then a somewhat steep price for Colombia, these Bike Motor Conversions would go over in Colombia? Read a few of the reviews,,,

Brakes? Brakes are for sissies.

But you're right. At second glance the orange bike does have disk brakes and those certainly are more expensive.

I’ve noticed only one conversion. A homebuilt rig and did not see the type engine.

There is a market for everything so I’d say that selling a kit or kit components seems most likely the formula to attain market penetration.

This “bike?? sells for around 50K in the U.S. the dealer has sold some in Colombia, 90K dollars.

I did not pay any attention to bike prices or look through a shop UNTIL I found the construction worker had a TWO million peso bike that he used daily. He was NOT a cyclist.

The girl I’m with has bought and sold two or three bicycles for maybe $25 to $75 dollars U.S. or 50 to 125 thousand pesos.

A year or two old 100 cc AK moto is probably 2 to 3 million pesos. I think a new one in around 3.5 million, maybe less.

Plus, there are payment plans. This was June 2006. Total price is less today but I can’t remember exact numbers.

Sad to said but the quality of imported parts in Colombia are not the best, as a matter of fact I just don´t like many of the bikes that are sold in Carefour or other places. Doing a good search you coul buy a bargain on a good bike on Ebay. Many things that are sold on Mercado Libre are bought in USA and Panama, that should mean something.

i checked out the bike shops on cll13. they do have shimano components and trek bikes available. most of what they seem to have is really cheap stuff. ie, horrible weld job on the slightly heavy aluminum frame (don't recognize the mfr), bottom tube shifters, $5 maxis tires, etc. and you can get a simple road bike like that for about 700,000 or $350US.
you can also buy an all carbon top of the line 18lb trek for 6,000,000. I dont know anything about MTB's but they had a lot more of those than they did road. i imagine they are a little less.
