muffiemae says on May 31, 2009, 05:06: By the way, Aires flies from Panama City to the regional airport in Medellin and the prices are MUCH less than flying Copa/Aero Republica to the airport in Rio Negro. I have Panamanian permanent residency and a cedula in Colombia. Does anyone know if I can fly from Panama City to the regional airport in Medellin? Would there be any problem with customs, etc.?

FlyboyNK says on May 31, 2009, 05:13: Shite airplanes with Aires? How about brand new 737-700's (same as Southwest)... and with Avianca yes you get stuck on the turboprops or older planes every now and then but they are operating A319's into MDE as well...

Chriscan (☼Travelguide writer) says on May 31, 2009, 09:37: Thanks soooo much for this post. My wife and I want to get back to Santa Marta from Bogota and we just bought 2 one way tickets to Cartagena for a total of 220000. Heck of a deal. We could have gone to Barranquilla for the same price but it arrives at 1am and we have friends in Cartagena. Beam me up Scotty; No intelligent life here. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

bickerss says on May 31, 2009, 10:33: Thanks for the heads up - bought a ticket to Panama from Olaya in Medellin, return for 186 USD incl taxes (except the 10 usd entry through panama Customs). Cheapest I have seen. Investment Strategy - buying when others are crying!! Offloading when others are gloating!!! 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

sanandressi says on Jun 2, 2009, 08:26: Avianca has something like 70 new aircraft on order. Mostly Airbus 319,320 with a few a 330's and I am not sure if the ordered any 340's? Also 10 new Boeing 787's. It will take some time to recieve all of these aircraft for they can't be built in a single day. One here and one there. With all the US taxpayer money going to Colombia I think Washhington should have suggested Avianca buy all Boeing but whatever......Avianca is a much improved carrier over the 1990's. American should be flying the 787 to Bogota someday....3 to 6 years probably...

viajero123 (☼Travelguide writer) says on Jun 2, 2009, 09:03: Why should Washington suggest Avianca to buy boeing? The taxpayer money being sent to Colombia is aimed at solving a problem mainly caused by US consumption of drugs. Maybe it should be considered if the US ratified the Free Trade Agreement, and even then the US should not give a bad example to countries like Colombia by interfering with private business decisions. Those decisions have to be based on their profit maximising objectives and not on government interference.

larryrn says on Jun 3, 2009, 07:48: Those prices aren't that good. I've been using AIRES from Medellin / Monteria and to Bogota and the total price has been like 75,000 including all. Plus when going to Medellin I fly into the city and not way out in Rionegro. Avianca is still overpriced domesitcally IMHO.
