Betancourt on Hardtalk

There's an interview on BBC News 24 (UK) tomorrow night at 11.30 with Stephen Sacker. I presume BBC World in Colombia will have it at some point.

well said...well said. And maybe a conversation with her husband and leave the bitchy mommy dearest out of her private life.

It is not life that matters, but the journey.

well said, jack.....

it's like some dreamer thinks the 'status quo' occurs only in colombia. unfortunatley, it's in my home town, all the towns i ever lived in and everywhere i've never been nor never expect to be.

true, we're talkin about colombia, but certain problems which plague society don't differentiate by borders...wealth distribution is one of em.

this same hydra headed cobra exists even in so called socialist/communist countries. don't see the powers that be livin in slums like bello or triste around medallo. hardly.

all we as lovers of mother colombia can do is keep the pressure on to insure that the citizens, all, receive their rightful share of the national pie. sad as it is to me, over the years since the '80's, the altruists who got elected to congress have turned out to be no more than just another greedy politician. without throwing out names they, and many of you, know who they are.

She does seem to still be in captivity while all the other hostages are quite content
Following is my theory as to why she seems this way.
She is not home; she might be regretting her strange abrupt decision to abandon Colombia so soon.
She was born and raised in Colombia.
I live in NYC maybe 30 years more than she has lived in France, she got there as adult, I got here as a child
YET, I've NEVER, NEVER, NEVER. NEVER. NEVER, NERVER. NEVER, NEVER feel at home until I’m walking the street of Barranquilla.
I no longer fear cops , not worried d about some Irish cop from Long island busting my head for no reason, all the cops in Barranquilla look like me. All corronchos. IT’S FROKIN FANTASTIC!
I hear vallenato all over the fokin place and see butiffarra and aguila beer I’M FOKIN HOME!!!! I’M HOME!!! Just the way I remember when I was a little kid.
Now before i go home to barranquilla, i have to take my daily walk in riveside park NYC

thank you

Great interview. Better than Larry King, Hardtalk is definitely a great show, although I must say Sacker wasn't hard at all...

Now,,, his is a great interview! Larry King`s was more like "National Inquirer". She was not so tired and he did`t keep on interrupting her for commercials.

Thanks for the link tasco666.

*Very* moving interview one of the best I've ever seen with anyone anywhere.

About her physical condition that others have said to be so good I quite disagree-she looks deeply fatigued, frail, glassy eyed and puffy faced the sort of fatigue no makeup can disguise.

That journalist is quite moved as well-he doesn't look at all like a hard bitten cynic but is deeply respectful-very professional attitude on his part.

True enough but she hadn't been so elated from being released after 6.5 years of captivity nor was she wearing so much makeup.

It astounds me that people can't see through the makeup-am I the only one who see the light brown rinse in the hair, the ominous signs of balding?

Desideria (Moderator) says on Jul 13, 2008, 01:31:

Perhaps not balding, but you can lose a lot of hair due to poor diet, malnutrition and lack of vitamins and minerals. If her hair loks thinner or patchier it may well be connected to her state of health and extreme thinness.

gamm2 says on Jul 13, 2008, 09:16:

what is it with the balding?? I lived in Mexico City for a year and seriously two months after I got back - I started to get REALLY scared. My hair was soooo thin. Everytime I ran my hands through my hair, huge amounts would come out. Thankfully its back to normal, now a year and a half later.

I dont think I had that bad nutrition - (we usually had at least one vegetable for comida and I always tried to get fresh orange juice) - I wonder if it has anything to do with a complete change in diet... I was also exposed to TB...

Im sad she is not going to cut her hair soon... I bet you it would look really nice. :)
