best ways to Send money to Colombia

I need to send money to Colombia and every time that I do, I have to send it wire transfer which can be a bit pricey and a bit of a pain. Does anyone here know of any other easier options that I could use to make it cheaper and easier? Thank you,
John Saldano

Good luck,

I use Citibank My mom taught me about this...she is building a house in Colombia and needs to send money to an aunt to take care of all the costs. She opened a Citibank savings account and got a copy of the card, sent it to her sister, and with that card she can take out money in Colombia. If you go to a Citibank ATM in Colombia, you can take up to $1,000 a day. If you go to another ATM, it depends on what that ATM's setting is as to how much you can withdraw. The only thing is the ATM fee....you can withdraw about 1.500.000 pesos at a time in Citibank, but you can keep doing that until you reach the equivalent of $1,000. It costs about 12.000 pesos (about $5?). It's worked for us, and it's been really convenient.

Open an account and get an ATM card, give it to her and deposit money whenever she needs a few bucks. She can use the ATM card to take it out. We've been doing this for several years through a local credit union with my sister-in-law and she uses the dough for birthday and Christmas presents.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

Paypal Debit Card Set up a Paypal account and then get a debit card for it. It's the same as opening a separate bank account with some added control.

have you heard of a bank called Nationwide chupa ? if you happen to live in blighty then you can open an account with these guys and get an additional card which you can send to this person in colombia and this will not charge them a penny when they take money out of a ATM overseas. you can deposit as much as you need this person to have and then safely mail them the card...this way they can make withdrawals all the time without paying the rip off banks...maybe there are similar banks in the US too that offer no percentage or charge you for withfrawls from ATM's...unfortunately im not over there matey.

or there the option of US dollar travller cheques which can be encashed loads of places in colombia cos im taking a few hundred dollars of these myself.

hope this is any good

Dinero Seguro through USPS I have used it many times and the fee is $10 for up to $700 (I think) and the money is there within 15 minutes. The receiver can go to one of three banks (they are the ones USPS works with and you do not have to specify a city or a bank) - show his/her ID (cedula) and give them the transaction # and s/he has the money - the transfer rate is also much better.
I do like the debit card deal better if you will be sending money all the time as you will definitely get the best rate on the ATM. Western Union charges too much (from Denver the rates are $35 plus!) Call your local USPS to see which office/s do this as not all post offices may offer this. Good Luck
Added - Travelers checks are not very good - you get ripped off in the exchange rate by up to 15%.

Does anyone know of any bank in California where I can open such account? I would like to send money on a regular basis to Colombia but either moneygram or western union is charging too much or the online service setup is too complicated and complex to establish an easy way to send money. I wonder if anyone here knows anything about NEXXO.

Nexxo has a web site, and someone here in San Francisco approached me to set up an account with Nexxo, but I refused because I was not sure if it was legit or just another scam. Thanks.

I’m bringing my money with me.
Right now I’m getting ready for my trip to curramba and this morning stopped at Citibank to order a brand new shiny ATM card.
I know is gonna get a lotta action and don’t wanna take a chance with the one I presently have which has seen a couple trips to Colombia and it don’t look too healthy.

PROUD ENEMY OF THE RIGHT WING!!!!!! THANK YOU!
