Best way to travel from Bogota to Medellin?

I am going from Bogota to Medellin in April and was wondering the best travel option. Would it be safe to go by land (bus), or is it just better to go by plane. I would like to see the country via bus but if it's not a safe idea I guess I will need a plane ticket. My family in Bogota told me it's a bad idea for me to travel alone via bus and my aunt at the embassy there said I should not consider land travel alone.

Bus in daytime fine. I have and would let Mrs. Gator use the bus to visit her sister in Medellin. , but if the family would be up set I would certainly consider air.

It is safe to take the bus. One thing I would mention is that different bus companies can have vastly different buses and levels of service. Some are brand new, luxury buses with free snacks and even stewardesses, while others are old, dirty and you'd be lucky to get a stick of gum. Don't always go by price. Those little creature comforts can make a difference. I am not sure what bus lines serve that route, but I'm sure many around here can give you a specific recommendation.

I have used Coomotor in Southern Colombia and they were pretty good. They go Bogota-Medellin although I've never taken that route.

recommended, 51mil, after semana santa you can talk the price down at the terminal

What I have, I do not want to lose, but Where I am I do not want to stay, but those I love, I do not want to leave, but those I know I no longer want to see, but Where I die, I do not want to go;I want to stay where I have never been

To give you an idea of times and prices of bustrips: A LA ORDEN, GATOR

Mrs. Gator uses Flota La Macarena $47.000 but most come in just about the same. That's for an express deluxe bus

to be on the safe side say 10 hours. To see the country try Expreso Brasilia which leaves Bogotá at 8:00 a.m Bogota arrives -Medellin 5:00 p.m. Take one of the big Gaviota Preferencial buses which cost a little more,$60.000, but you get:

- Servicio con aire acondicionado
- TV (algunos 2)
- VHS o DVD
- Baño
- Sillas reclinables en cuatro posiciones
- Descansa pies
- Entre 32 y 34 sillas
- Buses modelos 99 en adelante

Bring a jacket as THEY CAN GET COLD!!!

Al la orden, BillBigD. Unless the distance is too great we are inveterate bus travelers, local and intercity.
