I am going from Bogota to Medellin in April and was wondering the best travel option. Would it be safe to go by land (bus), or is it just better to go by plane. I would like to see the country via bus but if it's not a safe idea I guess I will need a plane ticket. My family in Bogota told me it's a bad idea for me to travel alone via bus and my aunt at the embassy there said I should not consider land travel alone.

ColombianoGringo says on Mar 22, 2008, 19:00: It is safe to take the bus. One thing I would mention is that different bus companies can have vastly different buses and levels of service. Some are brand new, luxury buses with free snacks and even stewardesses, while others are old, dirty and you'd be lucky to get a stick of gum. Don't always go by price. Those little creature comforts can make a difference. I am not sure what bus lines serve that route, but I'm sure many around here can give you a specific recommendation.

Gator says on Mar 23, 2008, 13:01: to be on the safe side say 10 hours. To see the country try Expreso Brasilia which leaves Bogotá at 8:00 a.m Bogota arrives -Medellin 5:00 p.m. Take one of the big Gaviota Preferencial buses which cost a little more,$60.000, but you get: "Brevior Sltare Cum Deformibus Mulieribus Est Vita!" . 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
