Best way to sell used electronics in Bogota?

So, I'm in Bogota, and I could use some extra cash... and I have my "old" digital camera just sitting here. I thought I'd hang onto it as a backup, but the reality is I haven't touched it in six months, so hey, might as well get rid of it. But what's the best way to do that here? Pawn shop? Ad in the paper? Wander around Unilago? Any ideas?

you may be out of luck I went to Colombia and took 2 fuji cameras 3.1 mg, and there are plenty of stores that sell them at the same price I was looking for.

Try the MERCADO LIBRE its the colombian EBAY.

the other thing is if you are willing to take payments, then tell your friends and family. they probably know someone who wants one with little up-front cash.

the market is tight there.

good luck

Three sites that I know of www.deremate.com.co/
www.mercadolibre.com
www.feriadeltrueque.com/

Also it would help to mention the specs here, someone might be interested, or know someone needing a digital camera.

But, I'm going to start making some assumptions here.... Which means I might actually end up making an ass out of myself ..........Thu 04 17, 2008 11:34 am

Thanks for the advice! The camera's actually a Fuji 601z - nice to see another Fuji fan here. But actually, I don't want to post all the specs here... this isn't a for-sale forum, and I want to respect that. Of course, if anyone is interested in buying a camera, feel free to send me a private message, and I'll go on at great length.

MercadoLibre--eBay affiliate?? IssacT--Went to this site-and saw what appears to be ebay logo-almost--in their logo-the "b" is small-while here the logo here is spelled with a large "B"--also on the Ebay page here at the bottom of the home page I see no Colombia site-as there are for Chile, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico.Never knew eBya had affiliates, only branch offices in the respective countries that they conduct business in. Remember reading an article a few years back when they were expanding worldwide and remember colombia being mentioned but due to security reasons they were not entering the colombian market. That is a pretty good clone but I don't think they are true eBay affiliate. What do you know of this Mercado Libre? How long have they been around?? I am curious as I have bought and sold on eBay since '99 here in Miami. Got to go back there and digest their site indepth at a later time. Thanks

webmanco gave you some excellent links. From what I can tell, it functions the same way as EBAY. The only drawback to the individual seller is that people there are less inclined to purchase something they havent actually seen or held.

I think that most people will take a trip to the place that is selling an item they want, if it costs more than $100 US. Or maybe send a relative.

I did go and look up that camera, the stats are nice and I like the sideways set-up, but 3.1 is now the standard there, so dont expect more than $150US or so (if you will take payments).

I sold my 5.0 Olympus for $350 and Angelica will be taking the other two cameras back with her. It was too hard to find a merchant to resale, even when I dropped the price to $100.

Note: you have a much better chance if you are actually there and can give a demo as to how it works.

Online COL Auctions Those 3 sites are very interesting--I am curious as I di not get into the registering process-am wondering if, like eBay, they requiere a Current Credit on file? Will check it out later. I would never get into deal where to sell, you had to take payments and worse, if they unsecured by a type of collateral. Friends of mine(colombians) sell from their homes in Bogota on credit-clothes, jewelry ect and they constantly have to track down their customers for payment. On eBay here--we use PayPal with our credit cards or in my case I usually only take Money orders(us postal type) or actual electronic Bank transfers and never release an article for sale until I have the cash in hand or in my account. Some folks here have been scammed by PayPal-others claim it is the greatest. Scammers always are looking for a way!

Goosekirk, bring it to Florida, I will buy it. I have Fuji digitals coming out of my ears already, another won't hurt.
