Restaurante Nuqui a couple blocks off Parque Lleras is an excellent place for seafood but unfortunately is not even close to being "fancy."

gorgonabob says on Apr 18, 2008, 14:28:

well fancy not that important, just good food
cheers

Pappassito says on Apr 18, 2008, 14:46:

Frutos del mar... It`s in Manila, close to centro comercial Monterrey. Great food.

spigrimace says on Apr 18, 2008, 15:38:

Blue Marlin (Laureles & Poblado), Nuqui (3 locations), San Marino (la 33)I always love gringos that come to my place and ask if the seafood is fresh. 12 hours from the sea and they want the mornings catch and get irked that its frozen. Buy a map.

gorgonabob says on Apr 18, 2008, 15:48:

youre right chris, ill stay away from the seafood... anywhere special up in Las Palmas with a great view apart from Las Palmitas

panthdave says on Apr 18, 2008, 16:38:

Blue Marlin walking distance for me in Castropol...Not bad...Near Lomo's...Actually Las Palmitas tropical drinks are not that bad anymore use to be horrible but there making good mixed drinks but the food could be better...

Well I shouldn't say anything I like San Javier and cook up a barbacue in the street mostly now...at my GF's sisters house..and make frozen tropicals in my portable blender...

La Doctora is a great Restaurant. there is 1 in sabaneta and the food is fantastic. The one in Poblado is also good but not as good. If you go...ENJOY!!! # 301 10-26 & Cra.43 75 Sur 65 Tel. 288 12 54

bickerss says on Apr 18, 2008, 22:36:

Angus Brangus in las Palmas above San Diego - excellent food and great view.

RAAAY says on Apr 18, 2008, 22:58:

Firstly,.......are you a gringo coming down here for a vacation ............and your idea of great food is based on the amount of the check......??

Do you expect to go to a fantastic place.............and the check will be $10 per head........??

Oh man, if you're into fried fish, I'm a huge fan of the Chocoano place directly underneath Parque San Antonio (under the side opposite Avenida Oriental). There's actually two in a row nowawadays on your left as you're walking down the steps from the park, but I've never had a full meal at the one closest to the steps. The one further from the steps is always damn hot, but it's always full - which is usually a good thing with restaurants - and I've never been disappointed. Go with the plato, you know, with the soup and all. The crowds make the service a little sparse sometimes, but they won't let you down. Those in the know bring their own avocados to eat with the fish - totally acceptable and worthwhile.

bickerss says on Apr 18, 2008, 23:45:

The Sushi Restaurant in Tesoro mall has an awsome view and good food. They have another one which is on Ave poblado where the casino is before Oviedo - it is 50% off on Tuesday and gets packed.

gorgonabob says on Apr 19, 2008, 08:24:

in the end i went to Mezeri which is new restaurant to the right of Parque Lleras looking up hill.. its right opposite another really nice looking place Bijou, serving Latin American food, which we tried to get into but it was packed.good to see there are a few new places opening up in Lleras serving different food.

and no raay im not a gringo coming down on vacation. i have lived in medellin for six years or so

firstly we had gone to Basilica and had some sushi, then several middle aged foreigners walked in with some young black girls which was quite a spectacle.. then i went to Escocia, the scotish pub,, only to find out it has just in the last month been bought by an american. oh well.

sushi light is a good deal on tuesdays... 2 for 1 isnt it..

bickerss says on Apr 19, 2008, 08:35:

Another one is Tony Ramos at the top of the Dan Carlton. The food was good and while I didnt like the decor, the view is great. Yes, sushi lite is two for one and a good deal.

Catfish35 says on Apr 19, 2008, 10:04:

I'm confused...Are we looking for just anyplace to tie the feed bag on here? If we are, you can go down to the Avenida to the Mc D's right at closing..if you time it right, offer the manager half or quarter price for whats left in the bin..sometimes he goes for it!

gorgonbob..... " and no raay im not a gringo coming down on vacation "

Sorry Bob........It was'nt asked as some sort of an insult........but, just to get a sense of what your idea of good restaurants are.

I went to La Proviaca a few weeks ago............really good restaurant, but a bit pricy for the type of places most people coming down on an economical visit want.

I was in Basicila last night.............those two gringo's with the young black girls were at the next table...........yes.......funny looking sight. I saw one of them and his girl up at El Tosoro mall today..........bringing her on a little shopping trip.

My check in Basicila last night was 440,000. This morning I looked at my credit card activities online...........they have changed the amount......They put $330 US through.
Be that a warning to folks going to this restaurant.

yo me quedo con mondongos.......... sea lo que sea. y no el del poblado.......el de la 70 papa.

Ray is talking about La Provincia, imho the best in Medellin.
Mediterranean food with a touch of Nouvelle Cousine in a classy atmosphere.
A well experimented short menu. Pricey.

Catfish35 says on Apr 19, 2008, 15:14:

You mean Mondongo's no?
And I actually found the food at the Scottsmen bar rather tasty in Parque Urass.

Crispino, a reasonable priced Italian on the Circular 1 in Laureles, deserves to be mentioned.
Homemade bread and mozzarella. Fantastic "Melanzane alla Parmigiana".
Owner from Naples, Salvatore Crispino, will make you feel comfortable.

bickerss says on Apr 20, 2008, 08:50:

What about the meat place in Sabaneta where they have the horses parade ?

Pappassito says on Apr 20, 2008, 12:59:

Isn`t that named La Mayorsita? If so,I needed a frickin chain saw for my steak when we went there... Nice ambiente, though.

robi666 says on Apr 20, 2008, 13:04:

La Mayorista is on the way to Itagui. Sabaneta is on the other side of the river: bickerss was probably talking about Alma Llanera?

Catfish35 says on Apr 20, 2008, 14:12:

I think the best place is inside the market La Mayorista..its got great Ice Cream and you can buy a Croissant con jamon Y queso...I hear its all served by this crazy gringo dressed in drag. But a helluva good guy and very handsome...what I hear! And very intelligent!

tejasmarcos says on Apr 20, 2008, 17:47:

robi - there is place in sabaneta called mayorista. it is a larger version of the place we lunched at in envigado. they do some live entertainment on the weekends as well - pretty fun place for a group.

trying to walk a straight line on sour mash and cheap wine...

bradenmiami says on Apr 20, 2008, 18:32:

I personally am a fan of Al Ilforno (spelling?)

There are two of them I know of...one next to the wings place on Avenida Poblado when it shoots into Envigado and the other just off the park in Lleras. EXCELLENT italian food...probably the best I have tasted here, but the one in Lleras is always better than Envigado.

The "lovemedellin website" is a piece of crap made by some moron who has only been to Medellin once...you'd be better off reading the Lonely Planet advice from a guy who never even came here!

robi666 says on Apr 20, 2008, 19:38:

Tejas, nope.
You mean La Mayoria http://www.lamayoria.com/sitioconsolas/lamayoria.php
La Mayorista is a different thing.

I finally made it to Crispino. Thank you, Robi. I had a very enjoyable lunch today. The owner greeted me with a big bear hug. And I had never seen the man before in my life. I told him that you sent us.

robi666 says on Apr 21, 2008, 14:04:

You just missed us for one day!
We were there on Saturday night, me and Ray and wives, Tejas, Ray's mother and sister from Ireland, a Colombian friend and his wife. Our common friend Peter was coming but could not make it.
Next time we have to meet.

You are on. I will be spending a lot more time there.

RAAAY says on Apr 21, 2008, 16:54:

Tom.........when you are next planning to go there, let me suggest calling first. They will give you the all clear, that Robi is not there.

If they tell you that he is there, they will also recommend another restaurant. They are used to these calls.

Buen idea, Ray. I have a lot to learn.

robi666 says on Apr 21, 2008, 17:55:

Funny,
Saturday night at Crispino we had "melanzane alla parmigiana".
Ray asked what it was and I answered "stuffed aubergine". No way he could understand what I was talking about. Ray's mother and sister knew it, of course, and tried to explain it to him, describing an aubergine, but the dumb Irish could not get it right. So...
THIS IS AN AUBERGINE RAAAY:

robi666 says on Apr 21, 2008, 17:58:

Yes, I also told him egg plant, and his sister too. no way, it seemed like we were talking about things from another planet.
This is what probably was in his mind...

"I am a citizen of the most beautiful nation on earth. A nation whose laws are harsh yet simple, a nation that never cheats, which is immense and without borders, where life is lived in the present."

Maybe if you could speak f**kin English properly................do you think anyone would understand when you say .." Hooobeerrrrooogginnneeeetttaaaaa "............How the fok would anybody figure that out to be aubergine ?

.
Anyway........I going to La Provinca at about 9.30pm tonight, if you're up to it..

robi666 says on Apr 21, 2008, 18:15:

"LA PROVINCIA", no "La Provinca" or "La Proviaca" like you wrote in a comment before... you're getting better anyway...
I have just eaten, I pass... say hello to all your wonderful ladies.
