Andres Carne de Res! Simply the best place on earth for food, drinks and dance. It is not in Bogotá sadly, but only 30 minutes from there!

Take a night there (get a driver!) and get back here and tell! The place is in Chia.

Andres is definitely a personal favorite I have been there numerous times and have always had a blast. I have even taken the trip on a bus with mi novia......much cheaper, but takes a little longer. A taxi one way to Chia from the Zona Rosa is only 25000 pesos, not bad and worth it. I am especially fond of Andres sangria.....give it a try.

Chia? You Owe It to Yourself to.. make a little trip to Chia, just to the north of Bogotá, and dine at Andres Carne de Res. Best damn steak I ever ate. Great dancing and I mean GREAT. Only open Friday, Saturday and Sunmday (Sunday is mostly famlies) but it REAlly rocks on Saturday.

Bogota Beer Company Its's so overrated, the seats are horrible, the beer isn't that good and the music is too loud, considering its a place to sit and chat.
We like El Recreo de Adán, won't say where it is simply cos I wouldn't want it to be filled with foreigners.

Bars in Bogota If you are stuck on Parque 93 or Zona Rosa - might as well head to El Amirante, Bulldogs or Charlotte's. Kinda meat arkets for the first two and the music is pretty loud in El Almirante - but if you're hunting chicas it is a pretty good place to start. If you are REALLY hunting chicas, go to Melgar (about a hour and a half drive to the southwest). A lot of rich hotties like to go there and live it up on daddy's dime. Date 'em but don't marry one - they'll bleed you dry. In between Girardot and Espinal (Tolima Dept.) is Mister Cayman's - Just order a bottle of rum or Jack and a few cokes and a bucket of ice. The palce is so damn packed it takes about 15 minutes to get from one side to the other and if you have a small bladder and drink beer you are hosed. People have to dance on the tables it is so packed. The other bar there the FARC blew up, but it was just as good. As far as safety goes - it is a pretty safe road to Melgar. Things don't start getting hairy til you hit Ibague. I don't go in there with anything less than 6 guys and a crew served weapon. I worked in Espinal and Melgar on a lot of deployments (I'm a Spec Ops guy)and have made the trip many times - only one bad incident - if someone tries to get you stop - floor it and keep your head down! And if you REALLY REALLY want the hotties - take your butt up to Medellin. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting a dozen. My last fiance was from there. But Bogota has it's share - my wife is from there. All being said - look around - but if you are looking for a wife - stay outta the bar scene. At least if you want a wife for more than a couple of years... - Oh - and have fun!

Better late than never...Melgar I know there are a lot of thumping clubs in Melgar, on the town strip, not the Cafam hotel gated community... but the one I personally liked the best was called Roca as you can sit on the open second level, and look down at the chicas in the street or down into the first level of the bar. Good dancing, strong drinks, great atmosphere. Hot dog stands everywhere after the place closes. I stumbled into two of them on the way back to Cafam and they were great.

nice bars well it all depends on how old you are, there's a nice bar called Lola near parque de la 93 , right on carrera 15, but it's usually so crowded you can't even dance... also full of younger people (I'm 23 and felt like everyone's mom in there)... you should also try chapinero which is in my opinion the place where you can discover the real essence of Bogota... there's a place called In Vitro on the corner of carrera 7 and calle 59, it used to be "the" place to be about 2 years ago, but now it's more enjoyable since not many people go there... well there are so many places I can think of, you also have Tantra, on carrera 15 too, and Miranda Latina, right across from tantra... there's also Mizu,which is near Atlantis Plaza, and there are some others around that area, Pipeline, Syldavia... and you can always go to La Candelaria, if you're lookin for some salsa moves, but remember, to go there ALWAYS take a taxi, it can get kind of tough after 11 pm, especially if you look like a "gringo" (anyone who's got light eyes does)....

Yes, The Pub and the Red Lion are frequented by expats as well as Colombians, but few of them are tourists! Best bars and restaurants are around la 74...Zona Rosa is full of drunk high schoolers playing it cool, and parque de la 93 is fun at times as well...Personally though, I dont like Andres, I think the music sucks, they play the same thing over and over, people are okay, very friendly staff but i think its one fo those places you have to visit ONCE, it gets old really fast...Try Nodo or Bacci, those are fun fun fun.

En la Candelaria If you venture down to La Candelaria go to Quibre Canto (Especially on Wednesday muy Chevere) and Escobar Rosas(Can get a bit full at the weekend). Both have great music,atmosphere due to all the students and reasonable bar prices compared to the bars in the north.
For great live music go to Crabs (not sure of the location though,Calle 76(?))or El Sitio near Parque 93.

My suggestion, if youre visiting Bogotá is to stay in the northwest areas, in general you shouldnt go southeast, and if you do, make sure you go with colombian friends (they will know where to take you there). The most popular area, meaning lots of nice bars, restaurants is the 93 park. So, if you wanna party, try to remain close to that area.

Ive lived in Europe, Asia, Australia and Nth America the clubs in Nth Bogota for me are poor imitations and a scene I don't really care for. But for each there own and if you've never been to these kind of places Im sure you'll enjoy them.

I prefer the friendlier environment of primero de mayo or those bars around calle 50-70 ( i think) - Barbie, Antifaz, Bar 23 can't remember all the names of them but they were always a decent price, friendly people, decent music lots of dancing and lots of people inviting you to dance and sing with them. Mainly students.

Quiebracanto This is one of the best bars in the center of the city.. but I agree.. only on wednesday.. in La Candelaria area you can find a lot of nice, tipic places.. and soo cheap !! El parque de la 93 is a cool place where rich people go.. but if you wanna see real bogotana culture go to the center !!! Always with somebody.. never alone... see ya !!

casa de Citas I recommend Casa de Citas in candelaria and and buenavista near parque Nacional...good live music in both of them....Cha cha bar is cool and has a good view of the city for it satnds on the 30th floor of an old abandoned hotel on septima and 30something...
Congo bar is agood reggae bar with sand on the floor so you can actually dance barefoot....it on 86 and 13

Peña Andina "Intiraimy" Cr. 7, Cl 57 I'm suprised nobody has posted this yet so here is my recommendation: I've been to the "zona rosa" as well as the Cl.93 Area and they are quite alright but nothing special (just like any other club on the western hemisphere - but with more latin music).

The peña (actually there is a network of peñas all over the andes) is a place run by indios (indigines) with their music and their drinks as well. You can sit on the floor (on carpets) or on very small chairs of course you can dance to live indio-music as well. The prices are reasonable (not like Cl. 93) and the people their are really nice. The owner will even teach you their way to dance - I couldn't do it however (I seem to be lacking the genes).

Anyway - this place rocks - better than anything else I've done in Bogotá so far and most colombians never even heard about. So when visiting you can tell your friends that you had great fun and know their city even better than they do...

Cha Cha If anyone is into electronic music, this is a must while in Bogota. (Funky House, Tribal and It is on the 41st floor of the old Hilton Towers downtown in the international district. The place rocks. Beautiful trendy people, great DJ's and awesome decor. The place also has terraces from where you can see all of the city at night. bit too trendy for its own good but a must for a cool Bogota Experience. It might not be the quintessential Bogota "keep it real" experience but sure shows what is going in the city in terms of nightlife. I personally had a better time there than in most places in London or in NY.

Crossing the Chia Border Enjoyed the comments about crossing the Chia border. Well, I live even further north of Chia. Don't worry, they don't shoot gringos there.

Much depends on your age as to where to go. I agree that Zona Rosa stuff is too played out and for tourtists. Andres Carne de Res is excellent, especially on a Saturday night. Going further North is a place called Carambola in Tabio. Features Tango Dancing in the Argentinian style. I could not find any good places in Cajica.

Bogota Beer Just tried the Bogota Beer company. I have to agree with the comments of Lauthra. The beer is NOT that good, the seats are uncomfortable and the music is way too loud.

Concerning getting back to Bogota after partying in Chia, yes the taxi is usually about 50,000 pesos. Unfortunately the last bus to Bogota is at about 10:30pm. And I have never found a descent place to spend the night in the area.

"Tourist bars" I'm sorry but I have to giggle at the idea of "tourist" bars in Colombia. All the foreign tourists in Colombia could hardly keep a small pub in business, much less the entire Zona Rosa.

The Zona and Parque 93 aren't "tourist" hangouts, they're the hangouts of Colombia's affluent upper class and their hangers-on. It's not for everyone and it's certainly far from everything Bogota has to offer, but it's hardly drowning in evil foreigners.

But maybe you are correct in that there are still not enough tourists, however those affluent people enjoy going to a place that makes them feel like they are in the tourist area of other countries they visit. So, even though the places may not be crawling with tourists, the ones I have been in in that area have that tourist feel, service and prices.

If not, I'll just sit down in front of "mi novia's" wide screen and watch it semi-alone. This might be one time when I would be looking for a gringo hideout.

After hours and Crazy Places! I get bored easily and find things to do when there is nothing to do! I travel alone a lot and must feel pretty comfortable when I go out so I judge a place by it's management, staff, environment, clients, etc. Keep in mind locals will assure you that nothing is happening at these times and hours, but I DO KNOW different!! Monday and Tuesday nights BBC bogota beer company Zona T and the irish pub around the corner is usually packed with enough people until 2-3am then I found it to be a very comfortable and welcoming party at a great whorehouse called 49! just tell a cab driver "vamos a fortynine!" This place actually saved my life from complete boredom that is. The drinks are expensive for example a beer and they only serve heineken in a can is $10,000 cop. The management is super friendly and they could care less if I use the services of the ladies, absolutley NO pressure and i know cuz i never have done that. But I have made friends with some of the ladies and left with them on several occassions with no problems upon my return ever. it is not really even a strip club, but i enjoyed it cuz everyone was having so much fun there until like 7-8am!! It's a great place!

If that's not enough there's a true after hours place that I met nice people in and had fun in and was actually alone there in a way (there were a bunch of other people there too) it's called Cascadas. And if your mention that to anyone who knows anything but not enough.. they look at you like you're crazy cuz that place is sooooo BAD! yeah, maybe if you act like a jack ass anyplace can be BAD! I was there on a tues morning til about noon! and it was packed when i left!

You have to try the poppers and acid at GOTIKA! That's an electronic club in Zona T and gets crazy! The nights I know from being there it's packed wed, thur, fri, and sat nights! $20-40k just to get in! The owner is all biz and that's good cuz he's always looking out and taking care of people. Lower level is kinda intense electronic house music, and the upstairs 3rd level is an insane party crossover to old school hip hop just people being insane!! So Fun! Cinema is an intense electronic club too, fun but me and my buddy think Gotika is wayyyy better!

Quiebra Canto in Candaleria is fun a regular place to go wed night is cross over with some reggae I know and the weekend is more typical type salsa...

Galeria Cafe Libro and Quiebra Canto Funny you mention them both, Sr. Tertius. I was an GCL last night and at Quiebra Canto on Wedmesday. GCL is excellent if you know how to dance. I only saw a very small amount of what looked like North Americans and Europeans.

Now, Quiebra Canto...I went on Weds., which everyone says is the day to go. I found it kind of lame and probably 50% of the crowd was either North American, European, or from other parts of Latin America (some Argentines). Even though it was where it was (not the North), it borderlined on a bit touristy for my tastes. They played a lot of what they tried to pass of as "Reggae", which was really a bunch of Pop Top 40 crap from the 1990s. The crowd seemed to be predominantly 20-somethings, but of course I managed to find some near-middle-aged gringos trying to work the crowd. Lame-o!

Also, I really have not been to any other sitios in la Zona Rosa or Parque 93 (I go there for Crepes & Waffles only), but the places look artificial and the music I hear from those places is the smae crap you can get in any US city for the most part. Nothing too special, just a place to be seen. I think I will stick to Galeria Cafe Libro or the joints in the El Centro, thank you very much.

Any good places that play vallenato, salsa, and/or merengue?

la fragata is an upscale restaurant, all dark wood, marine theme, top floor of a tall modern tower near calle 100 and 15 more or less...My girl wanted to go, but I took a look and didn't like it, too stuffy for my tastes.

H sasson in zona t, right near the irish pub is regarded as one of the best restaurants in bog, and 2 friends of mine went recently and raved about it, said it was some of the best seafood they ever had.

Also too stuffy for me though.

There is a newish fancy restaurant in a gorgeous restored old mansion, but I don't know the name...I think sasson might own it too, near oh maybe 72 and 13? sorry can't be more specific, but if I was looking to impress someone, that would be on the list. Great looking outdoor patio too, surrounded by big trees. Anyone know the name of that one? it's HUGE, so should be easy to recognize.

La Trampa on 7a was fun the time I tried it. Friday night is a good night to go.

Although it's vallenato, the band was strong on percussion. I found it to be laid back, reasonable prices, and would be a good place to meet people.

Plaza de las Americas is great, my first choice of places to go out in Bogota. My fave bar in this place is San Roque -- about half way along the street cramped with bars and you walk upstairs on a big straight staircase to enter.

there is an el sitio restaurant which has a good reputation and is around zona rosa, like 82 and 15, then there is el sitio the live music place on 11 (?) near 93, that also serves food. I don´t know about the food at either place, but el sitio near 93 on wednesday and saturday nights had some of the best live music I have heard in bogota (damn trying to think of the musicians names, Moris is one, but I liked the other guy even better...santiago cruz I think?)
