Bello Horizonte Beach in Santa Marta, Colombia

Heard a lot of stories about the FARC dragging people away and "Offing Them" even in Bello Horizonte? I am a weel seasoned travler to Cartagena and Santa Marta, but just recently found out about "Bello Horizonte" Beach. Beautiful Horizon. Tell me about a American living there, Bello Horizonte, and about safety, projected rental costa for a 2 bedroom "Bello" apartment. I need to enjoy life with my Colombian wife. It is my time. I have earned it. Living in California (Norte) is very costly and very crowded.
Anybody have any pictures they can "post" from Bello Horizonte, por favor! Also any information on apartment rentals with a "Beautiful Horizon" view (Vista)... That would be GREAT.

A Little Far Out of Town... on the road to Barranquilla. We looked that area three weeks ago but found it over priced and a little to isolated for our tastes. But is was very nice. If you look east I guess, from El Rodadero you will see the beach makes a curve and a lot of new condos-that's the area. I guess you could call it the "hot" new area. Quite frankly the wife and I found the people who were in charge of the buildings, for lack of a better word, "snotty." Never looked again in that area.

We once rented a condo in an the older complex there (I think it was called Alcatraz...what a name for a complex), about 15-20 min out of Santa Marta on the road to Barranquilla. It was lovely, except that it was too far away from town and there were about 50+ stairs to get down to the beach (which was stunning and quiet).

BH Bello Horizonte has going for it the fact that it's close to the airport, if that's important for you. Also, probably the primary security concern there is the crossing of the Santa Marta-Barranquilla road on foot.
