Bell Mobility cellphone in Colombia

Hello to everybody,
If my cellphone is registered in Canada, does it work in Colombia? Does it have to be a GSM? How much do they charge if I make/receive a call?

Check with your provider I use Sprint in the US and it is not GSM (CDMA I think) and they have roaming available in Colombia. It is quite expensive, but it is nice to have in a pinch.

However, you would probably do better to simply buy a cheap cell phone in Colombia and buy some prepaid minutes. You can get a phone for under $50.000 COP and prepaid cards can be purchased almost anywhere.

Cingular GSM works between US and Colombia -- $1.99 per minute unless you get international roaming which is cheaper but has a monthly fee. Used it recently with poor quality. Still to expensive to use about 50 cents a minute I believe. Buy the cheap cell with minutes as Gringo suggests. My recommendation as well.

Cell Phones Yes, the best way to go is to buy a cheep cell phone when you get to Colombia the only problem is, they wont sell you a legal one unless you have a Cedula! so you will have to get one in some one elses name.

You need a GSM cell phone Bell mobility has TDMA/ANALOG cell phones. You are going to need a GSM cell phone when you're going out of North America. GSM works in up to 185 countries outside of Canada including Colombia.
