Beginning my retirement in Colombia

Well, I have arrived in Bogotá with my wife, dog and our furniture somewhere between here and LA. We looked all over Bogotá for houses including the burbs and didn´t find much that we liked. The existing ones are expensive or have problems and the new ones are all three story with bedrooms so tiny my shoes won´t fit in the closet....ugh!!

So we went on vacation to the coffee area around Armenia. We took one day and looked for a house in Armenia and BANG! We found the most beautiful home. Four bedrooms with 3,000 sq.feet for $92,500.

Now I would like to know if there is anyone out there from Armenia that I can make contact with. If so, please write me at rdpaul_col at yahoo.com.

Also, for those of you in or going to Bogotá, there are some great place to go. This past weekend we took a day trip to Chiquinquirá. Wow! Don´t miss this town. It is one of the more attractive towns I have seen and far better than Villa de Leyva. It has an incredible Basillica that rivals anything in Europe. It is about 120 km from Bogotá and the paved basckroads offer incredible view.

Ok nuff on the travel...anyone from Armenia, please let me know.

I think that we have one member that lives in Armenia... LatinLife.... But, I haven't seen him log on lately....

I'll be in Pereira in September for a couple of weeks... Not to far from Armenia... And I've been looking at Finca's in the regions of Pereira and Armenia....

Enjoy your retirement...

Interesting, could you post some pictures or details about that house, just so people can get an idea? :) And congratulations!

Msaucey I´m interested to hear what you think about the fincas you´ve seen there. My wife and I made a trip up there from Cali to look at fincas a few months ago. It didn´t seem to me there was anything with a native stick of wood on it. We looked to the north around Circasia and Filandia and that seemed to be all milk cow farms then we visted Montenegro and Quimbaya which was all coffee and platano. The only area I saw that appealed to me was that valley below Salento that has the Rio Quimbaya running through it but I´m guessing that´s pretty desirable and all spoken for.

Atrevido.. Well, it's definately going to be somewhere in Risaralda....I've been thinking about the area of Marsella which is like 50 minutes from Pereira... or maybe by Morelia.... Not too sure yet.... I'm starting my research, but I have a few years, before I actually decide.... I'm spoiled... I'll want all the little luxuries... pool, couple houses on the property... things like that.... Keep me posted if you come across something interesting....

Rikito....What, if anything, are you doing about health insurance? If you have it, how much are you paying and what coverage does it offer? Is it from a Colombia provider or from North America?
