Beer Study...

Yesterday, scientists for Health Canada suggested that, considering the results of a recent analysis that revealed the presence of female hormones in beer, men should take a look at their beer consumption. The theory is that drinking beer makes men turn into women.

To test the theory, 100 men were fed 6 pints of beer each within a one hour period. It was then observed that 100% of the men gained weight, talked excessively without making sense, became overly emotional, couldn't drive, failed to think rationally, argued over nothing, and refused to apologize when wrong.

No further testing is planned.

There is a chemical compound in the hops which is very similar to a female hormone and that is what they are referring to.
There are also bacteriocidal and calming components too.
As for the beer in Colombia, I am not confident that they use hops in most of the beers but I suppose if you were to drink enough hop-containing beer, it probably has contraceptive uses too. That, plus the well-known effect of excessive alcohol on erection abilities, it could turn out to be the most pleasarable form of contrception, like you lose interest altogether and so does the body but at least you can laugh about it, whilst pissed anyway!

Yeah FLine...again you speak the truth.

All jokes asside when I was in Germany the avid beer drinkers there did point out that Wheat Beer or Weiss Bier / Heffewiessen as they called it, contains Phyto-Estrogens from all the wheat. One or two isn't bad, but accross the board all of them (waiters, bartenders, brewers, chefs alchoholics) agree that the tell tale signs of the constant Wheat beer drinker was man boobs and larger than average hips. From what I witnessed at my local wattering holes, it was def. true.

So, unlike the normal man gut that you would get from years of beer drinking, the added estrogens in wheat beer made the weight gain in more femininte fashion ie Hips and tits. True story ask a German ;)

Rocco, as your testosterone levels go down with age, you will start to see the "benefits", haha!
Douglas, there are other bitter-tasting herbs that can be used as poor alternatives to hops. They probably do not contain those oestrogen-type compounds.
Flatline, beer from which country? From Colombia, probably no problem. Here, the men just develop breasts due to obesity, especially among the middle classes who can afford to eat chicharon/burgers/fatty fry-ups/junk food etc twice a day.

Rocco, rice would just be a source of carbohydrate/sugars after hydrolysis, which would be fermented by the yeast to form alcohol and carbon dioxide. It would not replace the hops which really only provides flavour and does not ferment to any great extent.
