I am not familiar with that barrio sanandressi. My guess, is that it is 4 estrato area. But just a guess. I'll ask the ex tonight. I am pretty familiar with the city, and can say that it is most likely not a dangerous area. (Since I haven't heard of it)

Exactly BradK. Probably the most dangerous areas would be directly south east of centro. The neighborhoods between centro and Alcosto. Those neighborhoods are where there are a lot of car part tiendas. I believe one of those barrios name is san isidro. (sp?) But for the most part, there are not that many dangerous areas. "Dangerous" meaning more risky or dangerous than another area. If you know where the Exito is downtown, (it used to be Ley), south east of it gets pretty seedy. Lots of glue huffers, indigents, transvestite prostitutes, etc. Kind of like Cutler Ridge, Miami. jajajaja

OK gracias and do any of you have any idea of what SATENA charges (mas o menos) round trip between Bogota and Villavo? I see they fly the Embraer 170 jet. I went to their website and could not find anything on booking a flight and prices.

Is it Satena or Aires that just got a 737 and wants to fly to Miami or somewhere en la Florida?

if you go by bus which they are very safe and very comfortable it will cost you 20.000 pesos one way.
La macarena (el cimarron), you can get the ticket at bogota bus terminal, the bus goes to Granada but will stop at the bus terminal in villavicencio
Los libertadores, sometimes depends the season, you can get the ticket at the bus terminal in bogota, sometimes you can't the only way is to wait for that bus outside the terminal, and you can get the ticket directly from them, the bus goes to Yopal it will go through to Villavo but won't stop at the terminal so you have to get off anywhere in the city, the same goes for Expreso sugamuxy.

Also you can go on taxy or vans the price is around the same although in low season you can bargain them and you can get them for around 17.000 cop

the Vans are the autollanos, expreso Bolivariano, etc.

The price for a buseta varies big-time from the Bogota terminal to Villavo. We went there, and were quoted 300.000 pesos per person. It was a holiday weekend, and everybody was trying to go to Villavo. I ended up finding a taxi off the street in front of the terminal for 180.000 pesos total for two people. We bought the driver dinner and a beer along the way. But normally, the ticket is between 20mil and 30mil a person for a bus ticket. The traffic was terrible, and it took us 3 hours to get to Villavo. In a taxi, normally it can be done in less than 2 hours. In a bus, it is normally 2.5 hours.

250,000 for Satena o Aires? Is this round trip or solo ida? If it is round trip it is not too bad but yes bus is obviously much less expensive.....

Thanks for the information. I think the wife may go alone or with a friend she does not seem to want me and the kids to tag along. If we do kat and Jorge, what hotel would you recommend.....not expensive but not cheap and safe? The wife's family is kind of complicated....

Why didn't I marry a BOGOTANA?

yes expect to be very busy those days!! specially palm day.

what to do in Villavo? well apart from going to swimming pools or Balnearios, you can go horse riding, eat mamona o carne a la llanera in one the thousand estaderos in villavicencio, i would recomend La topochera y el cabestrero to me are the best places to eat Carne a la llanera o Mamona :)), you can go quad biking, paint balling, dancing, El 7 de agosto is the zona rosa of Villavicencio, also the two best nighclubs are in villavo Capachos and Kuarzo, for kids you can take them to El parque el sikuani, Los Ocarros ( it is a bioparque with the fauna from the llanos orientales)
another great place to go is El parque Agroecologico Merecure km 45 via puerto lopez the biggest park in South America, you can camp there but if you don't fancy there is also a hotel, you can practice aquatic sports, it has restaurants, a zoo and manmade beach (great park)

I dunno kat.....the words falso reten don't sound good to me. Everbody says it is safe and then I read where the prisioners let go yesterday arrive in Villavo and two folks were kidnapped around Christmas there. Some in my wife's family say we would have no problem but others in the family say not to go.

Things can happen anywhere for sure...I dunno...but as I said the wife seems to want to go alone anyway.
