Darloup (☼Travelguide writer) says on Sep 18, 2009, 15:41: As the original message clearly states, the false taxi driver is a thief who works with two accomplices on a motor-bike. The original message also clearly states that there have been hold-ups. Better to have tried and failed than having regrets all your life about what you MIGHT have missed 1 funny, 0 helpful. |

Miguel says on Sep 19, 2009, 17:36: While Darloup forwarded an email that circulates frequently in Barranquilla, there are more incidents involving shady taxi drivers. My brother in law was in a taxi on la 20 con 21 in barrio San Jose night before last. The taxista made a cell phone call and two minutes later a car with four guys overtook the taxi. They exited the car and approached the taxi with pistols drawn, robbed him of everything except his shirt and pants and then with a "bajate y corre o te vamos a matar", they left him on the street and drove away, as did the taxista. xkss2002 says on Sep 23, 2009, 20:37: No gringo prices, Elmo??? What would you consider an attempt by your nephew to charge me 35,000 pesos for a trip from the airport to la 43 con 80? I even showed him that the ticket from the window at the taquilla would have been for 18,000, had I used one of the airport taxis. With one short stop and wait along the way, it was hardly worth double. And every subsequent short trip around town was always 1000 pesos more than normal. He also charged me two fares for a short trip where I asked him to wait 20 seconds while I entered a discoteca to see if it was worth the trouble, while my date waited for me in the taxi. No other taxista in Colombia has charged me as if it was a completely new carrera. No thanks. I eliminated his # celular, and now hail taxis in the street, where I am less likely to be overcharged. This is not a commentary against you, Elmo, but rather a heads up to others to be aware that nothing really ever changes in Colombia. It only gets swept down the calle in the next arroyo, to be deposited on the lawn of the next poor sap.
