There's something of a myth on this Board that Barranquilla is comprised for the most part of hot noisy dirty slums.
Full of rathole bars blasting reggaeton at ear shattering levels, drug and alcohol fueled customers slouched at the bars obliviously to anything but the fat ugly hookers they can't afford (unless they are gringo booze/dope addicts).
In fact Barranquilla has all kinds of normal people living normal lives, going to normal jobs/schools, eating regularly and listening to anything but reggaeton.

Miguel says on Nov 15, 2006, 22:32: Someone else's myth As in someone who has never been to B/Quilla. It is hot at times, always noisy, and dirty. I plan on retiring there. "There is nothing lower than the human race...except for the French." - Mark Twain 1878-79 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

aztec says on Nov 16, 2006, 05:16: elmodefoque ... ...must admit that the only time my wife and I were afraid in Colombia was on a late night taxi trip (short cut) from the airport through a barrio to our assigned hotel. The "local residents" were banging on the top and sides of the auto. We actually thought we were in trouble and might not get out without injury.

RJQuilla says on Nov 26, 2006, 19:27: RJ I have had big fun there and like the place. Now the sites in the taxi ride from the airport can be cause for concern but once you are past all of that things are ok.
