Bandeja - Pendejo

Bandeja - Pendejo

Does anybody think these 2 words sound the same? Would a Latino mistake "bandeja" for "pendejo"?

I hear that bandeja paisa is popular in almost every part of Colombia.

Maybe Spoken with an American accent, I could see someone confusing the two. Sometimes people with an accent can have their P sound like a B.

When gringos try to say "Pendejo", it can end up sounding a lot like "Bendejo".

My husband does... My husband "who doesn't speak spanish" does call the dish Pendeja instead of Bandeja. Everytime I bring him to a Colombian Restaurant, he can't never remember the dish is call Bandeja no Pendeja and we all have to say at the same time "Bandeja no Pendeja" and then my mom say "el pendejo es usted".

EEEEEEverytime.

so ashley05 I'd love to know if your family is very wealthy or does your husband take care of you and your family. Due to your mother's response to your husband's error, I would have to guess that he is completely poor and your family takes care of all his needs.

That's so sweet for your mom to say that to your husband, not.

My husband is my mom's favorite son-in-law she talks to him like that out of love. She knows he is just trying to be funny. He always make us laugh and we all have a good time with him.
By the way, why would you think my family is very wealthy?
what does it have to do with the wrong pronunciation of a word?

Haha Ashley, I wouldnt have imagined that those two words could be easily mistaken, but youre absolutely right. How funny. I suppose it is a common pronunciation mistake.

I have a mental defect, (one among many) that causes me to leave "sobrinas" rather than "propinas" at a restaurant.

Haha Tinto, my boyfriend wears "sapitos" instead of "zapatos" and he eats "zorro" instead of "arroz"... its just incredibly funny.

This started out as an arguement with one of my friends. We were eating at a Colombian restaurant in The Bronx and he told me not to say "bandeja" too loud. He thinks people siting next to us will think we are saing "pendejo". I'm arguing with a guy that only speaks about 10 words of Spanish :)
