Bahía Solano, Choco

Hello everyone

I´ve heard it´s quite amazing there, and am thinking of visiting there soon. Anyone got any advice or comments, on getting there (from Cali), where to stay, what there is to see and do . . ?

Cheers

I haven't been to Bahia Solano but I was down in Nuqui and Pijiba back in February.
Choco is a poor remote and gorgeous place with massive rainfall and friendly quiet people.
Lots to see/do fabulous beaches and some jungle hikes that should by now be safe-the past has been 'eventful'.
Satena flies from Medellin to Bahia Solano daily.I was told that if I went to Bahia Solano where the airstrip is I was better off staying in nearby El Valle.

I went to Choco and stayed at Cabanas Pijiba a year ago - a fantastic place, it's an ecological hotel on the beach about 45 mins' lancha ride from Nuqui - you stay in wooden cabins with no windows (but they have thatched roofs!) and no electricity so you fall asleep to the sound of the jungle on one side and the ocean on the other - and the lack of light, only candles, makes it all the more romantic and peaceful. The beaches in that part are sublime - empty stretches for miles, hardly any people, and friendly natives.

Unfortunately I can't remember the contact details for Pijiba and it doesn't seem to have a website...

From what I remember, Nuqui is only accessible from Medellin - or was this time last year.

Choco is a malarial area - but you probably know that. So make sure you wear long-sleeved trousers and tops at and after dusk and cover up all the remaining exposed skin with insect repellant.

Have a great time!

Stay in El Valle I went to Bahia Solano in november 2003 and stayed 6 days in El Valle. Take the plane from Medellin to the Bahia Solano airport and take a jeep from there to El Valle. The rain forest is amazing, but be warned, the climate is extremely humid and it rains a lot. Take raingear and waterproof boots. An umbrella would also be a good idea
Although there are malaria in this region, the coast is not that bad. very little biting insects when I was there. Yet, it's still a good idea to take bug repellent with you.

The area is very poor and primitive, completely different from rest of Colombia. The people are mostly black and are generally very friendly

There are lots of soldier in this areas now and I's probably perfectly safe to go there now (there were a mass kidnapping by ELN,29 people in 2002, all were eventually released unharmed)

There are a few reasonable good hotels in El Valle, but the best deal is probably to buy a all inclusive package tour in Medellin or Cali

Could you give me more details? Hi Bjorn,

I am planning a trip to Bahía Solano in December but I don't have a clue how and what to do.

You mentioned some packages available in Medellín. do you have by any chage the e-mail or URL of a travel agency that offers this packages?

In which Hotel did you stay? Why did you select El Valle instead of Bahía Solano?

Any information will be very appreciated.

Muchas gracias.
