Those are great prices.

Last July, two friends from Austin visited me in Bogota. I did the internet work of getting them tickets, but only a week in advance. A ticket to Bogota was $1,250.00, but a ticket from Austin to Cali was $800.00 - on Continental. If you have the extra time, be sure to check flights to cities other than Bogota.

Avianca has a bad rep on this board but I have never had a problem.

I'm surprised at these prices and wonder if all the airlines have purchased oil futures and options like Continental did a few years ago in order to hedge.

Remember those Continental commercials where they guy gets his pillow taken by the flight attendant robbed and the other guy has to spit out his mint - Continental doing a parody of other airlines cutting everything. Contiental's strategic investment department rocked with their investments and let the other airlines "have it".

September,October,November last year all my 8 roundtrips I bought at 335.00 including taxes with American on that sale they had..but bought all at once...from MIA>>>

So over 500 I think is pricey for non holiday playing the waiting game...right now for March have all my tickets for January and February...I hit 450.00-470.00 jumping and might buy a bulk amount with different dates..with oil it is right now..

Remember, those advertised special prices on Avianca are rarely ever realized. You'll call all excited about the big savings, and they'll tell you they only reserve so many "promotional" seats, and those are gone. Try it and see if I'm wrong. They must have 2-4 seats reserved for the promotions, after that, you're out of luck. Avianca sucks service wise, take my word for it.

P.S. I'm flying American Airlines from Chi to Baq on my next trip, round trip of 650 dollars.
Avianca was quoting me 688 for only the Mia/CTG roundtrip. When Spirit airlines finally starts their service to Colombia, Avianca is toast.

I am flying on 31st, Miami- Baq, next morning Baq to Caracas, 7th Caracas-Baq, 10th Baq to Miami $815.
It cost me $195, Caracas-Porlmar (Maragarita Isle). Oh yeah also used voucher fro Roundtrip to start it all off from Boston.
Possibly Avianca will be in check from the recent American Air expansion into Colombia

Avianca service has changed dramataically my opinion comparing Nov.2006 in which I decided to give Avianca another shot on Christmas 2007..was a good experience except a little confusion in the Cali airport..in which I was in transit only.I stay in Medellin..
Changes
New Website there still twicking there problems
Self Check in Kiosks for Domestic flights and Echeck in on website.
Brand new counter in the New Concourse J along with there own section of gates in the new councourse in Miami Airport
Counter Service and Phone service I seen an improvement..

Spirit-Jet Blue-US Airways New Bogota/Cartagena Service coming soon Medellin have not heard except Delta wants to add Cali and Medellin from Atlanta..

There is only one Avianca Flight out of Ft Lauderdale per day. That is a direct flight to Bogota. So any other destination they advertise from Ft Lauderdale goes through Bogota. Miami has several Avianca flights per day to many destinations in Colombia.
