AVIANCA BACK IN L.A.

Just received this information from a very reliable source: Avianca will have flights again from Los Angeles to Bogota (direct) starting in Feb., 2006. This may not affect the rest of the country but it's great news to those living in California. Let's just hope their service has improved.

Nuevamente Avianca tendra vuelos directos de Los Angeles a Bogota a partir de Febrero del 2006.

Although I told my girlfriend about it and she said:

"No, mejor volamos en nuestros dos aviones (Continental) porque las aerolineas Colombianas para vuelos internacionales 'Hay que el combustible se acabo! O 'Habia mucha neblina...', y se estellan en la serrania del Perija. 150 muertos, lo sentimos mucho."

That flight was supposed to start in October. I think Avianca has been "about to" start an LA flight for a while. It would be very nice for West Coast people if they actually do it.

Avianca flying from LAX Of course this is the new Avianca which has been exceedingly punctual in their service from MIA to Bogota since the ownership changed. The food is still far less than used to be served by ACES but they are generous with bag weights and have improved enormously in the past six months.

cam0940 Does your girlfriend talk about some airlines where their pilots have pushed the wrong button and crashed into the mountains, o sorry those were airlines from a different country flying into Colombia. And tell her to find how who was responsible for the Avianca flight running out of fuel, or at least who the New York courts may them pay for this mistake. Maybe then she might decide to fly Avianca instead of others. Although I can say the only decent airline out of the USA is Continental.

Pretty good. I've been reading pretty good comments on Avianca's service lately. Last time I flew with Avianca was a short hop between Bogotá and Caracas and I liked them (food was mediocre). Apparantly since they got out of the US Ch.11, service standards have improved gradually and they've been expanding fast domestically and a bit internationally.
As for the comment of Avianca crashing... last time was that Avianca flight in New York indeed in 1990. So it has been 15 years with no casualties with a _lot_ of flights (in a mountaineous area). The Avianca safety standards are good and Avianca maintenance is certified by FAA and EASA.
Greetings,
