I have a few questions. We have been trying to get my friend here for YEARS but getting a VISA has proven problematic. She can't find a job in Cali and she's a single parent. I came up with this idea, albeit goofy. I thought that since she hasn't been able to get a VISA, she could sign up with an au pair or nanny agency, and we could go through there and hire her (or maybe someone else would---we are not picky as long as she gets to come here).
Several questions:
Is this idea feasible?
Will it fly if she has to bring her 5 year old with her?
Does being hired by an agency increase chances for the VISA?
Do you know of any agencies?
Is there a better word in Colombia for "au pair" than just using au pair?
Lastly, if anyone has any job connections or even just needs a housekeeper, let me know!

My agent in Australia always tell me not to go, but they are very happy to take my money when they realise I'm serious. Depends what you're after. If you just need a flight, then any agent can/ should do that. If you want a complete package that might be different. Why not book a flight and do some research (use this site also) and structure your own holiday. People here will give good advice on what is or is not a good idea. Not being a turist hotspot it is not as convenient for the turist; almost noone speaks English(unlike Mexico), but it has a very rich culture(unlike Chile), and there's lots to see; you can book the trip yourself easily. There are plenty of nice hotels, furnished apartments available by the week, airline tickets at travelocity, travel guides like Lonely Planet, etc. paginasamarillas.com has the Colombian yellow pages...you can browse this site's archives for more specific information, too. adrimm says on Mar 16, 2005, 09:10: Constancia, Aupair agencies Might make it a little easier for us to help out if you tell us where "here" is. The UK, US, Canada, Oz?

Chevere33 says on Mar 16, 2005, 12:04: "Here" . . . is the US. LOL. I guess I could've mentioned that! If "here" were Oz, we could probably bring her in via a bump on the noggin, the yellow brick road, hot air baloon, or perhaps three clicks of the heel.
