ATT. arthur brode/elk -what papaers are needed to give DAS for cedula after you get visa?

Hey guys ..thanks to your help I received my pensionado visa. It went exactly as you said. Now of course I have 15 days to get to DAS and apply for my cedula.
What I wanted to ask you is what do I need to bring to them(DAS)? I`m moving to cali and will apply there. Is the visa page in my passport enuff? (I realize I`ll need photos and prob. have to fill out a form),but other than that are there any other papers I need from Bogota. for example, did you guys have to bring a copy of the letter from the U.S. embassy? or something from the MRE?
again thanks guys for all the great info.-

DAS Here in Bogota it was easy .. I gave them 2 copies of the Visa ( stamped in your passport , 2 copies of the entry date stamped , 2 photos ( always a guy out front talking pics ) , Oh yea , had to get a blood test ( what type you be ) .. Had to stop by Ban Cafe (Bank ) and pay like # 120.000 peso,s ( fee ) .. That was it , in and out ! .. And yes , they give you a paper to fill out ( usual shit , take you two min ) .. Funny thing , even with the potos, they still take your Pic ( You can't tell anything by mine , just God Awful , hey maybe I look God awful ! They also finger print the hell out of you !

Contraseña first You will first get a "Contraseña-Cedula de Extranjeria en tramite no: 123456" where 123456 will be your cedula number. This looks like a NYC 42nd street 1980s style fake ID done on a trypewriter. Ask DAS when (and if) will they have the original cedula ready.

The contraseña may or may not get you a cell phone or a bank account. Depends if the salespeople or banker feels like doing it or feel like being sticklers. Many times they want the original cedula.

Usually it takes like 6-8 months for the original cedula de extranjeria to show up. The original looks high-tech has a sim card embossed in the back. Certain visas will not be issued the original cedula such as temporary or renters visas. I have a friend that just got the Pensioneers visa. Jury still out if he will get an original cedula because no one at DAS really new for sure (I toooooold him to bring a king size bag of M&M´s for Fat Fanny!). He is on his 3rd visa. He got 2 renters visas over the last 2 years and now the 3rd visa which is his first pensioneers visa. He has the contraseña since day 1 but they said they don´t give the original for the renters visa. Basically he´ll go back to DAS every few months and ask if the original came in. When I asked if my original came in, the jefe of the extranjeria office went through a pile of cedulas held together by a rubberband like baseball cards and I got lucky that mine came up.

SpigrimaceIt Is Right. Will Be a Long Wait. Mrs. Gator, who is a Colombian National, went in applied to obtain one the the "new" cedulas. She was told it would be approximately six months until the new model arrived. Of course, she has an advantage in being able to use her original cedula until the new one arrives.

The temporary cedula may caused some problems. Some banks and businesses are a little leery because of possible counterfeiting.

I opened accounts in both Bancolombia and BBVA with the Cedula de Extranjeria(temporal)The only requirement by the Banks was that i reside in Colombia a minimum of 6 months.

Thanks for the help- Yeah, thanx for the feedback.
I am interested to know, now that I have the visa can I travel in and out of the U.S. on a R/T ticket? I remember a few yrs. back I was living in honduras. I was there on a tourist visa. Which by the way was alot easier than Col.- 10$ a mo. for 6 months. You then leave for 3 days and can reenter. All you had to do was take a bus to the border to Nic. and you come back in. The guards were cool. You buy them lunch and they would let you reenter in a few hrs. Anyway while I was there I needed to go back to the states. I bought a R/T ticket from continental. I left and went home. When I tried to get back to Honduras the f&%$en airline would`nt let me leave the states without buying ANOTHER ticket.Basically they would`nt honor the R/T ticket I bought in Ho.So l had to go to the Hondurian consulate and get a stamp from them saying I had some kind of residency in Ho. so I could fly back. A real pain in the ass.
So now I`m guessing I can buy a R/T ticket here in Col. fly to the U.S. ,return here and reenter without a problem. Has anyone had any exp.with this?
thanks-

Pensionado Visa The Pensionado Visa is a "Multi-Entry Visa" which allows you to leave and return to Colombia. I recently purchased a ticket from American here in Medellin. I spent two weeks in the U.S. and returned to Colombia without problems..But remember to have your original Cedula with you when you leave. Here in Medellin it takes two visits to DAS to obtain the original cedula. You pay the 120,000 COP the first visit along with providing other documents and return the following day for the original.

DAS will give you an instructional sheet on the first visit which explains in detail their current requirements. (remember things frequently change in Colombia)
