ATMs in arrivals area of Bogotå airport?

Hola todos,

I've been told that there are plenty of ATMs in departures, but I'd prefer to take out some cash upon arrival without having to go outside and go back into the airport. I understand sometimes cops are around wanting to check your onward ticket.

I hope this message makes sense. I've spent most of the evening packing and now my eyes are getting a bit spinny...

Muchas gracias in advance.

I think the actual ATMs are on the second floor... not over where you get your baggage or exit the building. However, there is a currency exchange desk on your way out.

I don't recall seeing ATMs in the arrival area either - but I wasn't really paying attention either.

Yeah, I'm almost positive there are none downstairs in the arrival area.

Yep, there are 2 or 3 different currency exchange booths. They are fair, but you will not get as good an exchange rate as an ATM will give you. Hence, it would be wise to just change $50 or so and take a taxi. Then, withdraw larger amounts from ATMs later.

There is one right across the street from the Taxis on your right hand side as you exit. Davivienda ATM. I use it.

I Remember them being on the first floor after you leave the baggage area ext on the right to go out side where the taxis are located. The is also one on the second floor down by the VIP lounge by the chapel. Bout five different machines. I would get, as Robert said, say $50.000 pesos for the taxi and tips, then get more when you reach your destination using an ATM.

Never seen cops there looking at tickets. The second floor ones are the departures area. Easy to get to from arrivals. But if you don't want this, you'll have to exchange a small amount of money at the currency booth and get more later from an ATM at a better rate.

Still have to go outside to get a taxi, though.

Thanks so much for the help, everyone.

I think we'll take Robert's advice and just get a small amount of cash at a currency booth. We'll have heavy packs, so the less trudging around, the better.

Our flight lands at 9:40 por la noche. Are the currency booths open at that time?

Robert Jorge says on Jan 28, 2008, 09:35:

Yes, they are still open. I have arrived at 9:30pm also - are you flying with Continental out of Houston? - and the booths were open. I could be wrong, but I assume they are open as long as there are international arrivals scheduled.

There are some ATM's on the first floor, by the stairwell that leads you up to the restaurant area.... Never mind, I'm thinking of Nacional not El Dorado....

The currency booth was *closed* when I arrived on my last trip (about 10:50 pm by the time I actually exited arrivals), so even tho the rate sucks, try and have at least 50K COP on you when you land- a few dollar ding on the exchnage is worth it for the peace of mind. You can exchange at Houston.

Avoid currency exchange booths at all cost. They are the biggest rippoff.

Turn left out of customs instead of going outside through the throng of people and walk up the stairs to the second floor. Take a right and you will find a room with a bunch of different ATMs. I always use the Bancolombia ATM as it will give you $400,000 COP.
