Hello All
Midyear 2007 I spoke to a friend in Cali. She said the thing going around was some camera placed in ATMs to record your password and somehow finding their way to get your ATM card number. I believe she said some insiders at banks were in it, my apologies I do not know all the details and have not inquired about it. Apparently it seemed like it was happening a lot and was well-known. Has anybody heard of this? I'll be in Cali soon and have always used my ATM and do not want to stop doing so.
Thanks in advance -

Alma del Norte says on Nov 18, 2007, 20:16: Relax. I've been using credit and debit cards all over Latin America, (14 countries), for over 3 years now. The only time I had a problem, was in Guatemala when the bank retained the card and an employee laid it off to someone else - got every penny back. Stay aware and feel free to use all ATM's. Never had a problem in Colombia. La vida es una rutina 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

thur says on Nov 19, 2007, 02:33: There's no need to get al dramatic about possible ATM or creditcard fraud. Skimming of cards (debit & credit) can happen everywhere and Colombia is no exception. Criminals can place a cardreading in front of the slot or hide a spycam to view the code. It happens in Europe, it happens in Colombia... in El Tiempo of today it is mentioned as well: - www.pbase.com/thur 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Morrongo says on Nov 19, 2007, 07:30: Use your ATM as normal, you can for piece of mind use ATMs in secure locations, shopping malls or areas where it would be difficult to site cameras, clones....This holds good for other security measures such as theft.
