You're right. Your fiancee does not get anything at all until after your approved petition has been sent to the embassy from the National Visa Center. Even then, she may not get anything since they send the packets out using the Colombian mail system.

Multiple RFEs are not likely. If you get what they want back to them quickly, frequently they make a decision shortly thereafter. You're close!

Utopia You are correct about the multiple rfe being unlikely. It is actually a part of the Code of Federal Regulations somewhere "that an application should be thouroughly inspected in order to avoid multiple rfe's" I don't remember exactly where I read that but it is there.

But then what? The previous posters really sounded like they knew what they were talking about, so I thought I'd ask what happens after the approved petition goes to the embassy in Bogota? NVC tells me they sent my approved petition on June 28, 2005. Today is August 15, and my fiancee has heard nothing. On the Embassy website they list the dates of upcoming interview appointments, and I see case numbers that are later than ours. They talk about requesting duplicate packages of information via a Call Center, where allegedly you can also schedule an interview if your case number has become lost in the mix. Am I understanding that correctly?

You can down load the forms from the embassy website and/or visa journey etc. and send them in to force the issue (I know of one person who did this and got his interview very fast.) You can also try and contact the consulate in Bogota to find out your case status (I understand they only respond on one specific day between specific times.) Also, you can have a representative of yours (someone with an 'official' power from you) pick up the packet from the consulate.
I would however suggest to first wait one more week. Good luck

Sounds like your Packet 3 got lost. Follow the advice given above. It happens a LOT.

yeah just try to have someone in bogota pick up the packet 3, your fiance needs to send that person a notarized letter athorizing him/her to do so.

Your other option is toget the Ds-230 I and the OF-169 from the internet (I can send them to you if you decide for this option) fill them, send them to the embassy and wait for the interview date.

JMOON Hope all that answered your questions. Mine are answered and I thank you all very much. Embassy's got the DS-2001, which UC pointed out has superceded the OF form. Plus my congresswoman's office got involved. Turns out the embassy DID try to send Packet 3 by mail way back on July 5th, but they omitted a vital part of her address. I would never have known this if not for the congresswoman's office getting in touch with them. Since then we printed the forms ourselves and sent them in, so hopefully we can move directly along to Packet 4.

Which forms do I use to "force the issue"?

utopiacowboy says on Sep 1, 2005, 22:00:

RFE stands for Request For Evidence. They send one out when they need something else from you or they've lost one of the documents you sent in with your petition.

A lawyer is such a waste of money. If you can read, it is better to do it yourself. At least, you will know what it is going on. A lawyer is going to drag it on as long as he can to make the money.

THATS NOT TRUE i agree if you have some time do the research and just do it yourself especially if your situation is uncomplicated .but it is not true that lawyers drag it out - mine is the same price no matter what happens or how long it takes ... i just had some issues with my case that worried me and did not know who knew what they were talking about on this site .... anytime a lawyer is charging you for how long something takes run the other way .
