Or Clinton for that matter?

At this moment, I'd expect further changes in Plan Colombia or generally U.S. aid to Colombia, for which we've already seen a preview and thus their direction isn't hard to imagine...but not a real cancellation or anything.

The Democrats, from what I can tell, are not against U.S. aid to Colombia per se. Certainly not as a congressional majority.

Also, Obama's and Clinton's statements during the recent crisis tend to show that they won't suddenly put the brakes or anything, the previously referenced changes aside.

We do not need a President for the rest of the world, we need one for America. One of the problems is we already have a President for the rest of the world, GWB. He and his cronies have not been listening to the american voices.

"No matter who is the new President, they will improve relations with the rest of the world.."

Again we will not improve relations with the rest of the world with a new President. We go around world imposing our democratic values when our own house has been in disorder, and the disorder has been increasing for the past 20 years. We concentrate on America and rebuild a strong America we will regain our position in the world.

None of the 3 candidates we have are putting america first and are listening to the voices of america. All have an agenda that does not include us and again we americans lose and must wait for a true candidate of the people.

Where does this leave our beloved Colombia?
McCain = Little of no change in Plan Colombia

Hillary = maybe some change. plan colombia is a Clinton era program, perhaps a decrease in funding as she goes looking for cash to fund her social programs.

Obama = Colombia worst nightmare, plan Colombia ends in its current form, renogitiate trade pacts hurting Colombia's growing economy, holding hands with Ahmadenijad, donning a red shirt and tongue kissing Chavez..

I have no faith that any of this will play out as expected. As far as the dems are concerned I believe Clinton will be better since Bill fathered Plan Colombia. Obama has already made statements that he will stop sending money outside. Obama is going to take the 5 Billion and put it into drug education and such.
I guess out of all of them I am going for Hillary but not for her per se, I want Bill back in.
I just want to be able to worry about my President getting a blowjob again. Remember those days when thats all there was? And everyone was raking in the money?

For America, McCain will be a negative. Clinton was more political insight and will do better with Congress. Obama is out there. It does not amaze me that the young, politically naive and un-informed are drawn to him like moths to the flame. One does not change his color overnight. If my fellow Americans would learn more about US government, they would know that the Executive branch is primarily invested in foreign relations policy. True, the President has the power of a veto, but, the Congressional Branch has, and will continue to be the heart of US domestic policy. With respect to Colombia, Colombia's isolation among pro-socialistic countries and America's policy on drugs will make US relations with Colombia paramount. Any US President who thinks otherwise will quickly be informed by the numerous US government agencies. Today, with the American public's heighten sense of worry, any possibility of having more unfriendly countries in this hemisphere will bring swift attention. A prosperous Colombian economy is advantageous to the US.

i dont really agree with the commen though 'and Britan's tourism is almost soley dependent on Americans............' cos here in london we get loads of people from japan/china/asia, some many europeans from italy & spain, russians by the bag load and people from our old commonwealth like india, carribean, australia visiting as tourists, my flatmate works for marriott hotel in park lane and there has been a significant reduction in US based tourism over hte last few years......one of the main reasons is the ever weakening US dollar cos basically for loing time now £1 = $2, so obviously for you guys its damn expensive and i dont blame you from staying on vacation/living in the americas.

however, both UK and US govts need to think their PLAN AFGAHNISTAN & COLOMBIA campaigns which are in effect drug elimination tactics to get rid of heroin and cocaine. These millions of dollars/pounds are not being used effectively to reduce demand. we need to work more on education, encouraging the people not to grow these crops with alternatives, posible legalisation like in holland or sweden, and not just fighting the guerillas or afghans in their own back yards which is not working.

i hope the next pres has a number one priority to sort out the potential recessionary conditions which are looming in the US and obviously have a massive knock effect for everyone here in the UK and worldwide......its crazy to think that cos of dodgy lending and people defaulting on their home loans in somewhere like milwakhee or michigan i know have to pay 700 dollars more for my mortgage here in london since august last year when i got back from colombia....PLAN AMERICA first and then work on restoring international relations...at least the election this year may help offset the looming depression, bear sterns was a blow but there is more stuff to come out yet i believe....

I have no experience in Black or Spanish neighborhoods. There were no Hispanics in MN or WI in the 50s and 60s. And there were no Blacks outside of Milwaukee. I do, however, find that very hard to swallow. Of course I may not understand what you are trying to say.

I wouldn't necessarily DISCOUNT what the reverend Wright has to say,... I think he speaks alot of truth... but, of that REVEREND RUBITO has to say:

""""Schools in black or spanish neighborhoods are ENGINEERED to fail the students. """"

I think it absolutely COULD happen.. but, I think for here and now.. IT'S ONLY HIS INTERPRETATION.... nothing more.

Where do we go from here?

HINT: This is who the JUDGE blamed for the 20 year failure. (TWENTY YEARS !!!!)

In his final order, Judge Clark blamed the failure on the district: "Because of the KCMSD's troubled past, the district has lost the confidence of many of its staff, students, parents, and the community at large--already low achievement scores have fallen in the last year or two and the debacles of the School Board have provided near constant fodder for the news media

Suggest a time table,, estimating number of decades should be close enough.

Trying the same thing over and over and expecting a DIFFERENT result is the definition of CRAZY.

GUESS WHAT !!! I believe Colombia is heading in a similar direction. I've seen many similarities. Should Colombia fail in education, well,, lets say,, not good because an educated population would be Colombias best chance to compete in a world market.

PS: I'm laying this directly on the school teachers, their UNION and all the way to the top. There is WAY too much data that points this direction.

There is a significant H.S drop out in rate in NYC which speaks volumes for the general student popluation. The majority of inner-city kids are NOT interested in an education in the first place, most are just seeking social acceptance in or outside of the classroom. Shifting blame from the student to the city is irresponsible in my opinion. Granted, there are many obstacle for students who are interested in their school work, the majority of those obstacles are placed by fellow peers.

Obama Vows Opposition to Colombia Trade Deal

Nick Timiraos reports from Philadelphia, Pa. on the presidential race.

Sen. Barack Obama promised to stand firm in his opposition to the Colombia Free Trade Agreement on Wednesday–days after President Bush asked Congress to quickly pass the trade deal–in a speech to rally the union vote at the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO’s annual convention.
The Illinois senator said he would oppose the Colombia Free Trade Agreement “because the violence against unions in Colombia would make a mockery of the very labor protections that we have insisted be included in these kinds of agreements.
Unions have lobbied hard against the measure in part because of concerns of the deaths of trade unionists in Colombia. Congress passed a similar free trade deal with Peru in December. Obama and rival Sen. Hillary Clinton supported the deal but were not present to vote on it.
Obama told the union assembly that he was tired of unions “playing defense, but he also looked to set himself apart from Clinton, who spoke before the convention yesterday and compared herself to the fictional Philadelphia fighter Rocky Balboa.
“Let me tell you something, when it comes to finishing the fight, Rocky and I have a lot in common. I never quit. I never give up. And neither do the American people, Clinton said Tuesday.
Obama offered his own response this morning. “We all love Rocky. And last time I checked, I was the underdog in this state. So you know I like the Rocky story. But we got to remember that Rocky was a movie.
One point left unsaid by the candidates: Rocky lost.

Colombia's President Criticizes Obama

BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) — Colombia's president sharply criticized U.S. presidential contender Barack Obama on Wednesday for opposing a trade deal with his country, calling the Democrat out of touch with the realities of the South American nation.

The White House is urging Congress to approve the agreement, which would remove most tariffs on American exports and cement Colombia's preferential trade status with the United States.

But Illinois Sen. Obama said Wednesday he would oppose the deal.

"I deplore the fact that Senator Obama, aspiring to be president of the United States, should be unaware of Colombia's efforts," President Alvaro Uribe said in a statement. "I think it is for political calculations that he is making a statement that does not correspond to Colombia's reality."

Obama and New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton are wooing labor union members as they campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination in Pennsylvania, where the primary is April 22.

"I will oppose the Colombia Free Trade Agreement if President Bush insists on sending it to Congress because the violence against unions in Colombia would make a mockery of the very labor protections that we have insisted be included in these kinds of agreements," Obama said Wednesday at a meeting of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO in Philadelphia.
