Assassination attempt

Does anybody have news on the assassination attempt on President Uribe in Neive today?

I just heard about it in a msn messenger from Cali.

business as usual I guess assassination attempts and/or plans are so common that it is daily news, no need to write much about it anymore.

I don't like Mr. Uribe or Mr. Bush's policies.... but I wish them both well and pray for them. I'm sure I would like Mr. Uribe (I love paisas) and I would like Mr. Bush as a person. They are both personable, intelligent people.

I love them both as human beings. I just don't agree with their policies which result in people's deaths, I don't agree with them that killing other human beings is necessary.

I would never wish anyone to be killed, neither by bullets or IED's nor by bombs dropped from 35,000 feet.

I agree with Platano that i would not like to see either Bush nor Uribe killed. Wouldn`t mind seeing W in jail for war crimes.

i think mr. bonaparte should think a bit deeper about his wishes....

the world is full of hate and such-like wishes. try something akin to love and compassion. something solution oriented. it will be an attempt well spent.

I have to agree with you, DW. It makes you wonder what's going in a person's life that they would be wishing such things. Would the death of any public figure make a difference in someone's day-to-day life? My day-to-day life does not revolve around the Pope, Bush, Uribe, Tom Cruise, Sofia Vergara etc. - they can come and go. As with most Colombians, what is important are my family, my friends and coworkers, the people in the small town where I live.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

vladimiro says on Apr 26, 2005, 07:24:

Bush may not be more important to you than Tom Cruise...but believe it or not many peolple on this site are not American, some even have family living in those places where Bush has brought, or is planning to bring, death and destruction. Unlike Americans many are exposed to much more vivid images of the misery Bush is spreading. Americans have'nt seen the coffins of their own returning let alone any of the the aproximately 100,000 innocent civilians they've killed. Maybe that's why there's such a wide gulf between US public opinion and that of the rest of the world.

platano says on Apr 26, 2005, 07:42:

Vladimiro, a factual correction.... Your estimate of how many innocent civilians the USA has murdered is underestimated by more than one million deaths... if you count the intense carpet bombing of Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. But maybe those people didn't count... or get counted... either.

It would be better on both at the same time.
This way dead would be two birds with one stone.
But I agree with you, one is better than none.

Bush and Uribe are very different. I dont know why you compare them to be so alike all the time.. While Bush attacks people outside the borders of his own country, Uribe simply tries to defend us and make the establishment respected. And I believe he is doing a good job of that. He has reactivated full confidence in foreign investment which should just be a great help to the future of the economy. Every one complained before when Pastrana was in office... That he was to weak, and now that we have a strong president everyone still complains. Uribe is running a respectable goverment. He is doing a good job. Hopefully the presidents of the future will follow the example.

Mario, the US is exempt from prosecution by any International Tribunal. So I am afraid that is just wishful thinking. There is one set of rules for the US and another for the rest of the world. For the time being.

I would be in full support of Bush if the US was attacked or being attacked from within, but I am afraid I did not perceive a grave & immediate danger from Iraq. Why did we not pursue the Saudi Arabian side of the 9/11 equation? It smacks of deceit of the American people by their own government. I believe that the US knew of Hussein's intent to invade Kuwait and also that Iraq did not intend to invade Saudi Arabia, but purposely misled the Saudis and the American public just as they let Hussein play the card that was to be his undoing, and ultimately let the US take over the country.

Uribe is acting on a very real internal problem, unfortunately he is being judged simply because he is a wealthy man and all wealthy people must be corrupt. Let's let history judge him and Bush.

kernow62, If Bush were to travel to Belgium (and I don't think he will chance it) he could be arrested and held much the same way Pinochet was arrested and held. Final disposition would depend on the the evidence presented and outcome of a trial, but countries like Belgium have the legal right to arrest any war criminal who enters their territory.

I don't think Bush will ever risk traveling to Belgium. He'll send the black lady.

I agree with you: history will decide about Uribe.

In the annals of killing, Vladimiro, there's blood everywhere. The Russians, the Chinese, the Ugandans, the Sudanese, the Serbs, the Turks, the Germans........is there a single nationality that is exempt? I say it again - politics is irrelevant to what is important in my life.

UTC, I agree with you. The important things in life are love, laughter, and living the best you can. When you're on your death bed taking your last breath you probably won't be too concerned about politics. You'll be concerned about more fundmental questions.

Utopia, you wondered how anyone could want Bush assasinated. I just tried to point out that from a different perspective this is a perfectly natural sentiment.

I agree with you, Valdimiro, it's a perfectly natural sentiment - I just wonder about putting that much energy into it. And you know Platano, I almost think if people were more concerned with the things you mention, the things that do matter, they wouldn't be much interested in fighting and killing.
