Article on Colombia Property

Colombia made the top ten of Forbes emerging property markets. Pity the peso is so strong, would be in there like a flash!

Tensions along the Colombian border with Venezuela, and two years of home price softening, keep this housing economy from being a short-term pick. But assuming the Colombian economy can continue growing and its access to lending continues to bloom, it's a good market to watch in the next five years. Inflation is at its lowest rate in decades, and foreign direct investments, particularly from the U.S., continue to grow, with much of the money ending up in Bogotá.

are colombian homes economic? lets say estrato 5 -6
how much can one expect to pay?

tomtom33 says on Apr 19, 2008, 14:22:

I think that would depend on the barrio and city. A wild guess tells me that you would pay a bit more per m2 in Castillo Grande in Cartagena than you would in estrato 6 in Pasto.

Ok, who wrote this article, the same guy of the Lonely Planet Guide? Few facts and WRONG.

"Tensions along the Colombian border with Venezuela, and two years of home price softening, keep this housing economy from being a short-term pick. "Access to lending continues to bloom"? False
"Two years of home price softening"? False
"Inflation is at its lowest rate in decades"? False

"much of the money ending up in Bogotá"... I even doubt about this...

I cannot imagine how they managed to put so much errors in so few lines. One could ask if they really know what they are talking about. It is like it was written three or four years ago.

That does not mean that I am not positive on Colombian real estate market, long term.

"I am a citizen of the most beautiful nation on earth. A nation whose laws are harsh yet simple, a nation that never cheats, which is immense and without borders, where life is lived in the present."
